I'm from Australia and this is one of my first threads(i read ALOT, but don't post threads much) on this forum. I love my knives about a year and a half ago I bought a Kizlyar Phoenix-1 from the Australian website branch of the company Kizlyar handmade knives from Russia. Why am i posting this so late after buying the knife? It is because last night browsing the forum i found a rather disturbing complaint regarding the company (Kizlyar), and more specifically the Australian importer (lets not get into details and start a B.S marathon like what i read in that thread:barf
and felt that i must post a thread. Let me first say that i went directly through the sales rep for Australia (no names being mentioned) and he was polite, courteous and overly helpful to all my concerns.My knife came quickly with no visible damage to blade or sheathe whatsoever.
Most Kizlyar knives for those who are unfamiliar are hardened to about 57-59 rockwell (rust resistant models), which isn't very hard but is easy to sharpen and still keeps an edge surprisingly well. They all go through a several stage intense heat treatment process (all the way through the tang) and are production handmade (something between mass produced and 100% handmade i believe).
My Phoenix 1 was bought for use as intended, I needed an all round pig sticker but also wanted a high quality product at a price the Mrs wouldn't castrate me for and thats EXACTLY what I got. The knife has takes consistent beatings making the edge terribly dull but is really easy to touch up to shaving sharp so thats great. Handle is made out of some rubber/fiberglass composite I think, taken a great beating but hasn't chipped :thumbup:
