My native 3 is impossible to open fully one handed by me atleast. I tried WD-40 but it help only a little. Is there anyway to manipulate the pin to help the action?

Thanks

I cannot answer your question - since I am still in the market for a Native 3 - however I did read on here that WD-40 does not make a good lubricant when it comes to knives - its lubricates at first .. but then becomes dry, worsening your original problem - I could be wrong, but I thought I read that on here somewhere...

Is the blade binding on the scales? I have a Native that was doing that and I sanded the inside of the scales to free things up.

fill your sink with why HOTTEST water you can stand and let it heat up (soak) for a minute... open it and close it under the water 20 times while semi violently moving it around to flush debris... remove otfrom the water, still HOT... wipe off ALL water with a towel and use a qtip to get inside... the fact that it is still hot will help evaporate the smidge of water left in the pivot... let completely dry for a few minutes.. Use a high quality lube in the pivot and you should be golden! Remember wd40 is NOT lube... it is a cleaner of sorts... cheifly designed for Water Dispersement... enjoy!

I have what sounds like the exact same issue with my new Native 4 CFB.

I was hoping with all of the hype on here about Spyderco versus Benchmade products I'd be more impressed. None of my Benchmades have been anything but smooth right out of the box.

Sal, I'm disappointed that you have nothing to say about this. Here's a new (and expensive!) product being discussed as not working properly and nothing to say or recommend?

Never owned a Native, but I guess that's one of the downsides to pinned construction...

All of my Spyderco's have sticky or rough openings. Smooth as silk.

Excuse me Amnesiac?

We have an excellent competetent customer service dept. That's probably the first step.

I generally let them handle issues such as yours. That way we get to actually see and handle the knife to determine poential problems.

Naturally I'm assuming that your purchased the knife new in the box from a reputable Spyderco dealer.

What do you want him to say? Call customer service and send it in.

Nice. 7 posts and you're calling out the boss. Do you think Sal lives on these forums? Some folks actually have lives beyond BFC. :p

7 posts but been lurking on here plenty. I've never had anything to say before. I just notice that Sal seems to have plenty of time to pop up for the fan club. I just wanted a comment or suggestion. I guess I'm just not in the fan club enough. Just guy that just spent $160 on a knife that looks real pretty but has rel problems opening AND closing.

Sorry for expecting so much out of my knife.

Can't comment without seeing and holding the knife. Sorry. You seem to be trying to insult me. A bit tacky.

Why don't you send it in. Call it to my attention.

Spyderco has a following because they make damn near the best production knives on Earth. I am sure your attempts to dishone Sal are both futile and not welcomed......:thumbdn:

So I've heard! Perhaps that's why I'm so disappointed.

If you have seen there is a fan club then you should have picked up on the fact that most everyone has a great deal of respect for this manufacturer and it's knives. Your start up date is "jan 09" so 31 or so days has truly tempered your knowledge of not only "Spyderco" but "BladeForums" as well. Customer Service is there to assist the customer when they have an issue. Use them! You will be amazed!!! Everyone now and then has an issue with a product they have purchased. How they handle themselves and this problem is what defines (Them / You) Right now you are like your "Native" A bit messed up. But I'm sure it can be fixed... Relax, take a deep breath and email Customer Sevice in the morning. You will be better for it...

"Lurking plenty" for the 2 weeks you have been a member?

And now, after that long and arduous 2 weeks, you have become jaded and bitter enough that you have no choice but to lash out with idiotic comments and trolling.

Yes, seems perfectly reasonable.

Lurking for 6 months. Joined two weeks ago. In that 6 months I've bought 16 BMs. ALL of which open AND close with one hand. Neither of my two Spyders do. All I've been trying to ascertain here is whether that's to be expected.

I'll try Spyderco's Customer Service again tomorrow and report back.

You cannot read any posts in most forums including his one unless you are registered and logged in. . . So I guess you are a liar, and/or a returning banned troll.

Or maybe you just didn't realize "lurking" involves "reading" posts.

Instead of sending a knife in for repair I'm going to just bitch about it on an internet forum. I demand attention!
