Hard Use Knife

I would follow the suggestion to take cash. Once there with your feet on the ground, you can see what is REALLY allowed during YOUR tenure there, and you will also be able to purchase a compliant blade from those locally available. That makes it more memorable, too.

A small Swiss Army knife with scissors will probably fly under the radar best, and actually be useful.

cant take a knife to basic to start with. bunch of 18yr olds in a stressful environment foe long periods of time. throw knives in there......not a good call.
regardless, i love my emerson cqc7, im looking to get a zt0200. i dubt you could afford it(no slight meant, im a poor army man myself) but look at a strider SnG

just read the post about u going to AFA:jerkit::D
my buddy is a plebe there now. any knife that complies with state law (3.5") is ok. im not sure if you can take it to beast tho, maybe get moms to send it to u after.
good luck.
my friend is Joseph Springfield fyi, short philipino kid.

Things must have changed. I went to the Academy also, they even took my watch. But that was back in 1979. Good luck!

I was skeptical myself when I heard I could have one too. Hopefully I was fed some good information. Thanks!

Good on ya. Now that I have more info, yeah I can see that allowed in AFA, they do let ya have a life...eventually. You'll love your future career. I Crew Chief'd for 20 years on A-10's.
Call admissions, Commandants rep, XO or whoever and verify what you've been told. If so, ask if you can have a swiss army or multi-tool as longs as the blade(S) are under 3.5 If so, that's the route I'd go.
You'll be shooting paper targets there but ya won't be slaying any zombies, for that they'll issue you a spork!

Have a good ride, shagtail!

Hey thats awesome! Im at New Mexico Military institute right now because I recieved a Falcon Foundation Scholarship. Its kinda of like going to the AFA prep school for a year. I absolutely cant wait! Ill have to call admissions and ask them for sure. My academic advisor here at the Institure was the Dean of Academics up there at the academy and he has all these connections. I guess its a prime example of "its not what you know, its who you know".

I really wanna fly the A-10 but not sure if they will be around by the time I get there. I hope they will thought. Thanks for the info!

You're in luck! Before I retired (2006) we started modding ALL A-10A's and upgrading them to A-10C models, giving them more capability and adding 20+ yrs of service life. You have to go after this! Call in all favors! If you get the A-10 you will never regret it. It's a good clan to be in.

And yes, who you know can be very important, very helpful. Use all things wisely & watch where ya step. I wish you the very best. Give 'em hell!

If you like the idea of a frame lock and do not want to spend the money on a Sebenza, check out the Bradley Alias II.

Zoomie academy huh! What you got against that!?!? lol
Its been a life long dream for me to go there so Im pretty excited.

I'm just playing. No disrespect intended- I have a lot of respect for anyone who can get accepted to any of the academies, and for anyone who volunteers for the armed forces. I was a squiddie, and was trained to make fun of Air Force guys, I can't help myself. :D

Benchmade 14205. It is made for H&K and I find it is the perfect size, very smooth, and has the great AXIS lock. I think it is very under rated. I can also get the 154CM steel super sharp, probably the sharpest of all my knives.

Squiddie? We beat them in football. What was that saying??? Oh yeah, it takes a lot of jerks to fill a ship with sea men. Yeah, that was it!!!! :D

I'd suggest either the HK14200, or 14205 by BenchMade both of which can be found for a great price for less than you want to spend unless the prices have changed a lot since I bought mine. If not these then go for the Spyderco Chinook or Spyderco Manix/Mini Manix which can be found for just over the price point you wish to stay under if you look hard enough. All of these models are harder use folders with great locks that combine both reliability and strength. Personally I don't trust the locks on the Emersons as much as I do those I've mentioned above unless you were looking at the frame lock models, either HD7 or CQC12 Comrade which have recently been discontinued. If you compare the Emerson liner locks to other liner locks they hold their own but there are more reliable, strong lock design types out there that really offer superior performance to the liner lock design, particularly in the area of reliability.

Yea i guess your right. Here at school we bash on the Army ROTC guys like its a sport. Im use to takin my fair share of crap from the navy guys as well. My favorite joke about the Navy is:

What happens when 100 seamen go down in a submarine?

50 couples come back up!

Just playin thought. Thanks for the props on getting into the Academy. It was a long a tough journey but has paid off.
