Hard use multi tools?

I've varried a Leatherman supertool since I was 15. I'm 29 now. At some point I replaced my original supertool with a Supertool 200 which I've probably carried for the past 10 of it (don't remember exactly when I got it). Mine has been used for almost anything you can think of and is still going strong. I bout 3 more on Ebay a while back so I would have a lifetime supply. Since they are no longer made, thats about the only place to get them. I've played with new Leatherman products and they seem like garbage by comparison. I'll stick to the Supertool 200 for a few more decades.

BTW the tools on the Swiss tool are poorly designed IMO and offer little utility compared to the Supertool.

I like the Leatherman supertool the best, but I also have a leatherman WAVE. just make sure what ever one you buy has a tool Lock up. I have an old SOG multitool, and it feels good, but the tools don't lock up and often you have to readjust. Had a Gerber and sold it. They are very useful and I always have one in my accessory pouch on my spec ops sheath my Busse's are carried in.

I was googling around and came across this. looked mean

R.E.S. Rescue Extrema Ratio Knife. Anyone ever handled one?

I personally think the Leatherman Charge XTI is the best multi-tool on the planet. Mine has served me well for many years. But there is no prying tool anywhere on it. I keep a small prybar in my bag for just such an occasion. Right tool for the job I always say.

Agreed with all of the above!

My Wave has stood up to everything I threw at it. I have pried paint cans open with the flat screwdriver, hammered with the outside and tons of other abuse. It hasn't failed me yet and it replaced the original Charge xTi I wore out after years of the same abuse. You must have got a lemon.

I had a couple of the leatherman supertools years ago and really liked them. They seem really well built and strong. The only downside to them is the edges where sharp when opened and using the pliers, the handle edges would dig into your palms.

I have an original SuperTool that has worked well and now lives in my 72hr pack. Bought a WAVE and trashed the wire clippers on the first use and it just feels cheaply made. Bought the SOG Power Pliers and have been VERY happy with it!

Here's the SOG with some other hard use companions...

I just got my Swisstool in the mail today. This thing feels very well made. No wobble in the blades like my SOG. Everything feels completely solid and well built. I am excited to start carrying it tomorrow. Also got the one with the small ratchet for 1/4" bits. It is a cool little addition that fits in the same pouch. I will report back after a few weeks and let you know how it holds up to industrial construction abuse.
