Has a forum member ever done this to you?

Being primarily a fixed blade person, I don't follow the folder threads. So I have a question about those "speed holes".

What is their true function? The only legitimate reason I can come up with is "weight reduction". But it doesn't look like very much weight is removed since they are small and in an existing fuller. So??????

To me, the holes just look like traps for foods/liquids/dirt/grime/dust/pocket lint.

Yep. That's how I ended up with the HG-55 (TheMtnMan), NMFSH (group effort), and RatManDu (real name Rob, forum name escapes me).

Yes, too many times. Then I end up either selling them, often for a loss, or keeping them to try and figure out why it's so beloved. The ones I keep I often end up grumbling about until I give them away. Spyderco PM2 is a classic example. I hate S30V, the handle is not deep enough for its size...Grumble grumble.

It will find its way into a friend's pocket eventually.

Of what I've actually kept and enjoy, that would be the TSF Beast and Southern Grind Spider Monkey.

I hemmed and hawed for over a year about getting a Spyderco Domino, but seeing pictures made me, coerced me, into finally buying one. And I love it.

I swear the people here are all experts at brainwashing.

For example, I'm not a fan of Todd Begg's design esthetic. I find his knives overly decorated to the point of crossing over into gaudy. RamZar's low-intensity long-term subliminal advertising campaign, I decided suddenly "screw it, I'm buying one of those things".

I blame RamZar . . .

Look, I like RamZar also and enjoy his posts and threads. BUT...BUT...BUT...you didn't tell us whether you like that thing that you bought.
The folks here would like to know. FINISH your thought.

Dammit, now you've got me PO'd, so a bit a revenge is in order...
Oh yeah, RamZar likes this model also...
:)
Ahhh, now I feel better.....

...and I am really fond of this one in S90V...

Fortunately, the mini-Bodega is too short in the grip for my large hand... thank goodness...I'd be broke again.

Good point! Long story short, the knife is amazing.

Cons:

  • Blingtacular Begg style is over-the-top uneccessary embellishments with sprinkles on top
  • It's expensive for a Chinese knife

Pros:

  • Flipping action is IMO perfect (I've come to prefer a strong flipping action with slight resistance but smooth travel on closing over free-falling closing)
  • The knife is impeccably well made
  • The knife is super tight but also ultra smooth, in a way that makes my two Sebenzas feel lesser by comparison
  • The funky pocket clip works great
  • The banana-shaped handle feels like a more round, smaller Southard (a good thing to me)
  • It small enough and light enough to carry well in dress pants
  • Small fit and finish details are great, everything that should be rounded is rounded, in a way that makes the knife feel very high quality in hand

Even at its price point, even with its gaudy styling, I'm completely satisfied with my purchase. I'm getting weird urges to buy another already. Fantastic little knife. RamZar = evil, to be sure, but IMO he has solid taste in small flippers. :)

Sure, without a doubt: when you frequent BF, look at the photos, save the pics, you are feeding the addiction. You start to rehearse your purchases, you gain validation by the comments and suggestion of others. Then we justify. If the drawer is full of SAK is that truly enough? Enough is never enough...that is the human plight.

Each time you read these posts, you are giving life to the hobby, watering and tending to the implicit needs of the obsessive behavior. The smart fellows who have managed to cull their collections have probably saved themselves endless grief that looms in the distant future.

Or, just keeping collecting until that final 24 hours and pass the burden on to the delighted face of another who may profit from a quick sale.

Yea, I pretty much hate RamZar.;)

Word is RamZar is actually KnifeCenter in disguise.

Ever notice when is posting, the other seemingly is no where to be seen? Right? No normal person has a knife collection that large.

Lol all the posts that show spyderco para 2 knives, and benchmade griptillian, and the hinderer showings have made me order one each this week but before that it was the bad monkey from southern grind and while I was there the jackal just had to come home too!

Will post photos of the other three as soon as I get them in my hands

If I purchased my knives based on forum members opinions and commentary, i'd own at least 63 spyderco knives and zero S&W.

As it is, I own zero spyderco, and keep a S&W in my vehicle at all times as a spare backup.
