Has Anybody Tried the Sterile Yankauer Suction Tips?

......She and I have continued on our own, trying to come up with creative ways to improve her speech. ....... I am beginning to hope that, if we can ever overcome the choking problem, she may be able to live semi-independently in the future.....

Mike and Skunk, Thank you guys both for your stories, and Skunk, for that tremendous picture! You guys and your history show everyone what the human spirit is capable of in times of adversity. My hat is off to you both!

Wow guys. Just a silly post about some eBay items turned into real-life revelations.

Kudos to those who care for their own.

He started it *points to MikeH* ;) :D

It's amazing. Serious posts get hijacked to weird pics and joke threads are hijacked to powerful/moving posts.

I like our twisted way of life lol

I'm experienced at the Heimlich, but if any of you Hogs ever need me to perform the hindlick maneuver, I'm afraid that you are gonna die.

It is my great regret to inform you that the Heimlich Family has sued the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, and the American Medical Association. They site Copyright Infringement. Some forward thinking family member of the Late Dr. Heimlich has Copyrighted his name, and has a patent pending on his "Maneuver". They family states they would like $1000 for each infringement.:thumbdn:

The AHA has changed the name in all of their books to the "Abdominal Thrust":jerkit:

I like Skunks "Hindlick" Maneuver better. It usually has the same effect as the "Other".

Last I was aware, the abdominal thrust is a completely different thing. The heimlich is to the sternum, the abdominal thrust to the, well, abdomen. Has this changed?

It is possible, I mean they keep dumbing down the wrong things. They've recently removed an actual pulse check for the more dangerous, "look for signs of life". Seizure patients everywhere are waking up to broken sternums and cardiac bruising.

They concentrate so much time deciding how many compressions to respirations is optimal. :jerkit: As a medic, I was always VERY happy if I saw good compressions and good respirations in any combination.

Wow...evidently I've got some issues. :D

I always taught that the "Heimli**" was below the sternum, and above the navel, to avoid the Xyphoid Process.. Although, I could be wrong as well..

The "abdominal thrust" was moved down an inch or 2 from the Heimli** to avoid the patent infringment.

Ain't Lawyers great!

I SOOOOOO know what you mean about good compressions and respirations.. 30 and 2 now.. Soon to be 50 and 2, then 75 and 2, then 100 and 2!!

I either punch them in the gut or throw them to the floor and doing a WWF (Now WWE) People's Elbow to their gut. Works like a charm and is cool for effects/showmanship.

I am happy to hear you say that. The one time I had to perform CPR, I could not remember the count. I told the guy helping me, "We are going to do 10 and 5." It worked. Got thrown up on for my trouble.:D

Thanks for the link to the story about Dick Hoyt. It definatly made an impact on me and puts life in prespective.

You're right...I must've been drunk. :o

I enjoyed a good rant anyway. :D

Good job, Mike! :D

Skunk,

What do you think your dad had in the holster?

I have a High Standard .22 that has that same shape, it is still a tack driver!

A few years ago I escorted a bike ride through San Francisco and Marin Co. (north of here) that was on its way to St. Louis. There were many tandem pairs like shown in that video. It was on of the best days I ever had riding a bike. If I ever lose motivation all I have to do is remember that day. In truth it is pretty easy for me to ride 100 miles but those people were making physical efforts I can never match.

That video is amazing. It makes me want to fly to Idaho and rig something up so I can take Skunk on a bike ride with me.

Should I read that as: "I was on a road trip and cut off these stinkin' people in the road. I then flipped them off and drove in front of them slowly to piss them off" ? ;) :D

Sorry... Sounds like what would happen up here. We had those wheel chair athletes up here a couple months back going from Fairbanks to Anchorage. Bless the athletes hearts, but @#$@#$@#$ the people slowing down to cheer for 5 mins, not allowing people to pass safely or at all and almost causing dozens of semi accidents. Sorry. That drive home sucked because of the idiot drivers and NOT the athletes.
