Has anyone ever just bought a bunch of cheap knives?

I bought a bunch of those Chinese Sanrenmu and Navy knives only to give them all away, EXCEPT the 710 which turned out to be an OK little knife.

I have a pair of the S&W Boot knife/small hunter (sw650 & sw630). They were about $13, and came with 440C blades. They take an amazing edge, and seem to hold it well. It seems that the sub-$20 S&W knives are great deals (most all have 440C blades), and come with beautiful sheaths (if they have one). For the knives being made by Taylor Brands, I am thoroughly impressed.

Meh....usually when I go the cheap route I end up regretting it. Once you get used to the general quality like fit and finish you get from your higher end production knives then everything else just seems cheap. Even when I buy knives for gifts I still only buy something that I would actually use myself. It just makes me feel better that way.

Now I'm not saying by no means that the cheaper knives are JUNK. I'm just saying I usually end up regretting my purchases when I try to save too much. Am I even making any sense...lol

I bought a bunch of Rough Riders at once to checkout different patterns. Have no regrets.

Cheap folders can be downright dangerous if you over extend yourself. Be careful out there!! These are better I think....jussayin...

Easy to buy, quite difficult to get rid of. I think the last time I have purchased a knife of the kind was sometime about 3 years ago. Even then I remember wandered what has got into me... Nether used the thing.

I always end up kicking myself in the rear after purchasing a cheap knife. I say put that money toward a Para 2.

I normally have no regrets, but buying cheaper knives has NEVER satisfied me.

Perhaps initial satisfaction, but then it later sets in that the money could have been put towards something of much more quality.

I did't go through with the checkout last nite. I've been getting more into sharpening lately, and I think that something in s30v or d2 maybe 154cpm would fit the bill better

I was at a flee market, there was a table with plastic tubs full of knives.
picked through 'em and ...

Picked up a dozen little Vic/Werner SAKs. (giveaways)
Half dozen little folders: Kabar dozier, zippo, kershaw lite, etc.

Spent $35 ... Sometimes cheap is good.

Has anyone ever just bought a bunch of cheap knives?

Sure. Sometimes for a good reason, and sometimes just curiosity.

I can't say "no" to a closeout Swiss Army Knife. :)
And when Schrade went out of business, I picked up quite a few.
Opinel gift set, ten knives in a display case for $60... Heck yeah!

Don't spend $100 on 5 crappy knives. I think you can get a spyderco military for that price. You could get a used Emerson for that price. You could probably get s30v in a Kershaw/spyderco/benchmade for that price.

For me, my cheap knives save my nice knives from getting screwed up. I can dig or chop roots with my Ontario 12" machete, and I'm not worried about damage to the edge.
I have stashed some cheap knives in a few survival tins, these are knives I found, inherited(the messed up cheap ones), or are just extra knives.
Old Hickory makes very affordable kitchen knives, if you can put an edge on them. Then other non-knife folks can use those in your kitchen, and not the real kitchen knives.

Cheap knives are the loaners, the guy that doesn't have a knife can be given one of my cheap knives, and I won't miss it if it's broken or lost.

I think you should replace the word cheap with crappy. There are some really good cheap knives out there (ie. Bk2, spyderco tenacious) that are a big bang for the buck.

IMO buying a bunch of crappy knives is a big waste of money, I would rather have a couple of really good ones. However I do have 1 crappy smith and wesson folder that I use for all the edge abusing cutting.

For $100, go on ebay and find yourself a spyderco paramilitary 2.
