Has anyone ever just bought a bunch of cheap knives?

I bought a grip of Moras and a couple opinels one time. Not cheap, just very inexpensive.

For $100 dollars you'd have a lot of very serviceable knives.

Nope.

A Mora is about the least expensive knife that is still of good quality.

Friends don't let friends buy cheap knives!

No, I don't waste my money on cheap, but I have bought a knife or two that I thought to be a great value.

I've contemplated picking up a bunch of bare Green River blades for some inexpensive projects. I've eyed the Rough Riders as a way to try out different patterns. There is even a S&W or two I've considered picking up for dirty yard work. Or maybe getting the Old Hickory 5 piece set for camp and kitchen. Even cheap knives can be a good way to get a feel for a blade length or handle shape. You can practice grinding, rehandling or filework on them and not cry if you make a mistake.

I saw that in our kitchen we had a cheap rusted steak knife that for some reason my wife uses....when I asked how come she uses that knife and not some of our better knives she said that she didn't want to ruin the good ones. I threw that knife out and bought a cheap boker steak knife and I actually like it.

Someone posted in the EDC thread within the past 3 days an A.G. Russle that is a folding dagger (spear point so its labeled), man, that looks good and it's a 154cpm blade with a titanium handle. Compared to a Darrel Ralph Mad Maxx, or even a Boker AFD the A.G. Russle is cheap.

Normally I wouldn't, but recently they had a pair on the cover of "Tactical Knife" magazine (Sept 2011). Both were made by Meyerco, both were made in China. Both were designed by American knifemakers. One was called "Shockwave" and designed by Kirby Lambert. The other was called "Catch Dog" and designed by Greg Lightfoot. Check out the article if you get a chance. After reading it, I said what the heck. Normally I have reservations about the less expensive knives and PREFER to buy exclusively American made but in this case I made an exception and for slightly under $100 I was able to pick up both. They are both pretty hefty folders and both use 8Cr13MoV for blade steel. If I were to pick just one, I would probably buy the Shockwave but both are good "users". Every once in a while it's nice to try something different and because of the review in Tactical Knives I had a good idea what I was getting before plunking down my hard earned cash.

I used to years ago, before I found this place.I got got caught up in that "knife collectors show" on late night TV(100 knives for a $100) & BudK way back.Just about every one I bought,I wound up giving away, except for some cool looking swords.

Picked up the Catch Dog recently and it is a pretty good knife for $20. I have always liked Mr Lightfoot's designs and I am enjoying the heft on this one.

don't confuse cheap and good value. my inexpensive value knives are models like the byrd cara cara, buck vantage select and kabar dozier folder. i tend to only buy knives from reputable companies.

Well, I did it, I bought some inexpensive knives recently. There all Boker though, Great Knight, Urban Tank and a fixed blade called a Steel Mariner. I have been on this pointy knife thing lately, maybe this will take away the need to buy knives for awhile.

Here is a link to a review that has 2 of them in it.

i think buying a lot or two of opinels or moras if your into fixed blades. i love my opinel and usually have it teamed up with a nicer folder. they are great slicers.

I Have A Good Amount Of Cheaper Knives, And They Are Generally Really Nice. I Mean Yes, They Are Made In China. No, They Do Not Have The Big Reputable Named Like Kershaw Or Spyderco. But Hell Yeah I Have a Small Amount Of Them. Around 7 Or 8?

I've bought some cheap no-name throwing knives because they looked cool and I was gonna throw em and didn't care if they broke. Other than that the cheapest I've bought would be like a KaBar Dozier, a great knife for the price.

I bought a couple thousand cheap knives that my company gave away as a promotion once.
