Let me ask you, what would you pay for such a knife?Yeah 84mm, two layers.
$27 USDLet me ask you, what would you pay for such a knife?
Gotcha. I was going to see if I could put one together. But it would end up being more than that, at least in part due to tax and shipping costs.$27 USD
I see. I was thinking of a production model that bushcrafters would love and be a big hit for Victorinox.Gotcha. I was going to see if I could put one together. But it would end up being more than that, at least in part due to tax and shipping costs.
You could make one yourself but it needs parts from a Sportsman, Tourist, or a Tinker Small. You could also get the parts from a Waiter + any 91mm SAK with an awl.I just submitted an idea for them to add a reamer/awl to the Walker. It would have blade, saw, combo tool, and reamer. That would make it an awesome small bushcraft SAK. If they made that, it would go straight in my pocket and never leave.
Thank you, I take it you're an experienced modder. If I get the urge to do that, your advice will go a long way. For now I have a Farmer, which would be my woods SAK.You could make one yourself but it needs parts from a Sportsman, Tourist, or a Tinker Small. You don't need to fully disassemble the Walker. You just need to take the backspring out of the knife layer on the Walker and replace it with the knife backspring from a Waiter/Sportsman/Tourist/Tinker Small. This only requires the removal of 1 pivot on the Walker, and 1 pivot on the parts donor SAK.
With the new backspring in place, you will have an open spot to put an awl. The awl is slightly thinner than the knife backspring, so you will also need to add a small thin washer to fill up the gap.
There will be potentially one problem though. The awl's nail nick will be mostly if not entirely hidden when the awl is closed, which will obviously make the awl difficult to open. To solve this you will have to create a small cutout in the scale around the awl's nail nick, very much the same as you'll see on a 65mm Wenger/Delemont SAK.
No.Thank you, I take it you're an experienced modder.

The old back phillips used to have a file pattern on it. The shaft was also flattened on the file's side.I could kind of see some sort of inline Philips with a file on the side (or on multiple sides with different grades) as a "NEW" useful tool combined with the rest of the tools on a Spartan. I could also see that one side of the bottle opener was equipped with a file pattern.
Have any one ever thought of a NEW tool that´s not been made yet? And how would it look and where would it be placed?
It’s exactly what I was thinking of, a NEW, never done tool by Victorinox before. And, to replace the can opener specifically. And that’s what I think Victorinox is looking for when they ask users for ideas.Maybe they could bring that back, but leave the shaft fully round so that you have a little round file.
It's difficult to invent a new tool that nobody has ever thought of before. Maybe that's not what you meant?
.
In my house it’s the opposite, and even if it wasn’t, I would use the proper can opener from my kitchen. The same goes for basically all other tools on my SAK, I always use the intended tool for the job, the SAK is in my pocket and comes out when the intended tool is not a close aound. That usually means I am not in my home when I use my SAK.Almost every can inside our house; first world Canada kind of place needs to be opened with an opener.
If you are ever making some food and you break your culinary opener you're gonna have a bad day. And if you pull the ring of a can of sardines you "can" open that the same way. Super handy.
I agree- when I’m in the woods there’s no better alternative to opening Bush’s Baked Beans.Almost every can inside our house; first world Canada kind of place needs to be opened with an opener.

Well if you want to get rid of something have a look at the parcel hook. But you'll get pushback from the parcel folks. In my house it’s the opposite, and even if it wasn’t, I would use the proper can opener from my kitchen. And in this specific case, I was referring to another users reflections that the can opener should be replaced with a new more modern tool. And I kind of agree, but even if I wasn’t, I would like to hear ideas about a NEW never made tool to replace whatever you feel is an outdated tool![]()

Exactly. Why focus on taking stuff away from a SAK when it's a multi blade knife and tool already.I don't call it a parcel hook... I call it a superglue de-capper and spring stretcher.
It does not matter that much wich tool you or me think is outdated, the point is figuring out a new useful tool that Victorinox will actually make. Posting ideas to Victorinox of just your favourite set up (that does not yet exists) in not going to make them do anything. That should be proven already in the thread?Well if you want to get rid of something have a look at the parcel hook. But you'll get pushback from the parcel folks.
