Almost every can inside our house; first world Canada kind of place needs to be opened with an opener.
If you are ever making some food and you break your culinary opener you're gonna have a bad day.
In my house it’s the opposite, and even if it wasn’t, I would use the proper can opener from my kitchen. The same goes for basically all other tools on my SAK, I always use the intended tool for the job, the SAK is in my pocket and comes out when the intended tool is not a close aound. That usually means I am not in my home when I use my SAK.
Stuff isn't made like it used to be. At some point your can opener just stops working. At multiple times throughout my life I have been stuck with a non-functioning can opener. At home. I am one of those people who has searched different ways to open a can. My usual method was to go around the lid puncturing it with a pointed church key. It's a slow method but it works.
Nowadays I have a huge collection of SAKs and multitools and I have multiple can openers in my kitchen. There is also a p38 on my keychain. I never want to be stuck without a can opener again.
Poke around the internet at all the howto articles and videos. Being without a functioning can opener is an extremely common occurrence.
