Has Boker Ever Made A Good Knife

I'm not saying I'd like a $100 knife to come out of the box like that but with some mild work those problems could easily be fixed. Polishing and lubricating the washers should eliminate the turkey sound. I also noticed the angle on the lock portion of the blade was crazy steep. A slight decline in that angle should make the lockbar move over a millimeter or so and provide solid lock up.

Again, no knife should come out of the box like that but I didn't see anything that couldn't be fixed in 30 min.

My Boker Beauty Steel is a real jewel, one of my favourites. I carry it regularly. But, it is a fixed blade.

Have owned a Subcom (folder and fixed blade), Albatros, Kwaiken, Epicenter, and Pipsqueak. They were mostly nice knives with minor problems here and there. My Kwaiken flipper and Pipsqueak were great examples. The Epicenter had a small amount of up and down play and the scales were slightly misaligned. The Albatros was pimped so will not comment except the lockup was solid. The Subcom folder was a bit off center and the action was rough, needed to be broken down, cleaned, and lubed. The fixed blade had a terrible edge, so thick it could not cut a thing.

If you can find a dealer who will examine the knife for you or purchase secondhand from someone who has given it the okay, there are worse buys out there. Hard to turn away some of the collaborations they make with really great knifemakers.

The German Bokers are your best bet but some of te Plus line I've handled were really well made. Boker as a whole makes solid knives.

What is sad is that the Boker is Counterfeited in China and sold for $5 and you cannot tell the difference between the fake and the real deal, they are both the same...................................junk!!!

the only Boker I own is the Boker Solo - the 3 3/4 larger version not the solo II. But anyway, it is an awesome knife. It is an Jens Anso collaboration with Boker. N690 steel, nice thick blade stock; nice smoothed out alum scales and the lock up on it is rock solid. Not only that but the lock bar locks real early and is giving absolutely no indication of wearing. It's made in Germany and the steel is Austrian made and is better then VG-10 in my opinion.

So if your looking for a solidly built folder from Boker, I definately recommend the Solo; it's priced at around $130.00 making it an excellent deal in my opinion. I use my 0550 mostly as my EDC but I take out the Boker from time to time.

I saw the new Stingray and I really, really like the design. But $100 for a Chinese knife? No. Titanium or not I wouldn't pay that.

I buy directly from their shop in Solingen most of the time, so I have fondled quite a few of their knives over time.
Most of the knives I have are from the Plus line, the Magnum ones are mostly cheap crap and I'm too poor for the Made in Germany ones :p
Their folders seem to be hit-and-miss sometimes, I always have the shop clerk show me a couple knives to choose from.
Never had any problems with their fixed blades, in fact my Vox Rold is close to perfect.
Even the cheap Magnum Desert Warrior I have is pretty good, other than a slightly off grind on the swedge.

I've only owned their Tree Brand traditionals. Those made in Germany and marked "Solingen" are uniformly excellent, well made of excellent materials. Those Tree Brand knives marked "Germany" are actually made in China and they are not so great. Based on my experiences, I would happily buy a truly German-made Boker but I would hesitate to buy any of their other knives unless the prices were considerably lower than the competition.

I always really liked Boker trads. The made in China Tree Brand knives are something I just heard about recently and consider a revolting development.

I never tried the Plus or the Magnum line. I think diversifying to different levels of price point ain't so bad if you clearly delineate like with those two lines. The tree should be a mark of quality.

I've had good luck with Boker, but currently I have only two left in my stable: a Boker Plus Tom Krein Pocket Bowie in 440C and a Solingen made Tree Brand 'Beer Barrel' Whittler in C-75 carbon steel. Both keepers (the Whittler is actually one of my very favourite traditional pattern carry knives.)

I've had a Boker Cinch Trapperliner in stag that was fairly nice but ultimately not my thing so I gave it away. I've also owned a few CLB designs from the Plus line and they were pretty darn decent for the money: the Hyper and Trance. They weren't carried much after I bought some higher end folders, so they were gifted to a friend (who still uses and carries 'em and they're going strong.) I still recommend 'em to others from time to time.

Hope this helps!

Of course. Only get Plus or Solingen models tho. Magnum QC is pretty bad, you can tell because a Magnum Damascus folder is like $30. The only Magnums you should buy are the condoms. I'm actually going to pick up their anniversary edition traditionals once I muster the money.

That video gave me a good laugh. Never owned a Boker knife looks like you have to be careful which model you choose!

I've had good luck with Boker, I'm quite a fan of the direction they're taking with the Plus line. They're really killing itwith offering collaborations with outstanding makers. Take the GTC Federal Flipper. Great knife IMO. I've also had the Kwaiken, Epicenter and a couple others. Actually one of my next purchases will be the new Urban Trapper. Ti, VG10 and bearings for under $90? Yes. It's true some bad ones like the one in the op slip through, but it also seems to be getting better.

The Boker Nopal I've got (just my example) surprised me with how good it is; excellent blade centering, very good fit and finish, fantastic detente & action, and great lock-up with no play in any direction. It's China made btw...

It does have a goofy clip though.
