Has everyone become too damn sensitive? Yes this is about a knife.

I responded to a post where a member posted price for a knife. ($365.00) He clearly said he didn’t know the value. I posted what the knife cost new $229.00 but since it was used I offered $200.00
I got no response from seller and yesterday I got a notice my reply was removed. No explanation. I have been around for a while and yes I was a gold member for most of my years here. I’m certainly not as active as before but what is going on? By the way I’m a man. Whoops, saying that I’m a man might offended someone. Sorry.

I believe the rules state you’re not to post in threads unless it’s a request to purchase at asking price. Any “offers” should be in PMs or offline. Telling someone what their knife costs (lower than their asking) is probably seen as “price policing”, and there are mixed feelings about that. If you’re trying to set someone straight on their pricing, best take it to PMs or emails. Sales threads are kept clean of any “clutter”, and by clutter I mean “anything that isn’t an ‘I’ll take it’ or something very similar”.

Not about being “sensitive”, more about stopping arguments and flame wars before they spiral out of control. Sellers aren’t removing posts from sales threads, supermods are.

Eugh, this is cringy. The guy didn't want your offer, you're employing a tactic I've seen a little where, when something you don't like occurs, go on the defensive and say "Oh, I'm sorry, I must have OFFENDED you, do you need your SAFE SPACE", it is especially funny to see two people going back and forth like this, both taking the role of tough-man, unoffended like the other guy must be!

What in the world do I care what is in between your legs, and why in the world would I, or anyone else, be mad at it? Yes, this is about knives, but I bet you sure wish it wasn't. 😂

I had a used knife for sale here on the forum many years ago. I had one of the moderators here send me a message offering me the price that the knife cost new. It was used and I paid too much of course at the time and was trying to get back what is paid. He helped me realize that it was too much and I appreciated his advice. It used to be about trying to help each other learn about knives and sharing experiences.
Now, I will see a knife listed for $100.00 more than what it sold for new just a week ago from Spyderco.
I understand certain knives increase in value at times but it seems this is just a place to make money on knives anymore. Remember the guy said he wasn’t sure on value and neither was I when I made the offer. I’m old and into guns now more than knives but I still enjoy a good knife like anybody else. Back to my guns I guess.

Even without the ability to PM, there still is posting on the profile page, or asking for Email(if not provided). They still might not appreciate the price, and sometimes you just have to move on.

It's a weird thread. You're sensitive about others being too sensitive?

Pricing is an arcane art. If you're too low, you're clueless. If you're too high the Flipper Squad descends on you. You get it right and somebody is sure to come along and demonstrate sixteen different ways why you're a clueless boob. See number one. Or is it number two?

In any event, pay the price asked, make a private offer, or ignore the thread. It's not all that hard. And don't be sensitive about other's sensitivities.

Guns? You seen the prices of those lately? How about ammo? Are you telling all vendors they are overpriced?

Seems you should know better after being on the forum for 11 years.

Negotiating a price requires a bit of tact. Offering 55% of his asking price right out of the gate is like a slap in the face. Next time, try a little dialog before making an offer. And who's to say that it won't bring his original price? I've seen some clapped-out drek sell for much more than I thought it was worth, just look on Ebay.
