Has everyone become too damn sensitive? Yes this is about a knife.

I had it happen to a sales thread. It wasn’t fun. LNIB discontinued for a couple years and a guy felt the need to make a post telling everyone what the list price was! From 2 years ago! Implying i was ripping people off.

It was a fair price about 20% over the old list price and about 70% less than they were going for on ebay.

Inflation has prices all over the place lately. Retailers are selling knives for $40 more than they were ~ a year ago. (On a $300 knife for example.)

Yes, far too many people are way too sensitive.

I blame a culture that rewards being a victim, even (or perhaps especially) when it's self-victimization via projection or other nonsequitur assignment of ill-intent on the part of the other person.

I don’t see it as being over sensitive. The seller may have felt you discouraged other buyers interest in the knife for sale by trying to dictate his selling price in an open forum. A private discussion would have been more appropriate and less likely to offend.

It’s very simple.

5. Do not post in a person's thread unless you have an implicit interest in buying the item. Posts like, "Nice knife!", "Why is the price so high/low?", "I wish I had funds" are not allowed. This means absolutely no commentary or feedback in someone's sales thread. Seriously, if you stomp on someone's ad, your account can and will be locked. The only exception to this is in the Knife Makers Market areas (if the maker/craftsman requests and welcomes feedback). Save questions and offers for email rather than cluttering the thread.

I agree leave the comments out of sales threads, every now and again some one high on life decides to sell a knife for 4x the price it is currently available for and those folks deserve a LOL in their thread for everyone else to like.

The "LOL" will still get removed but damn if it isn't justified.

So let's get this straight:
1. You did not read the rules of the exchange.
2. You made a post in violation of those rules.
3. A mod removed your post.
4. Rather than simply moving on, you made a thread to whine about how everyone else is too "sensiitive".

I might agree that someone here is too sensitive, but it ain't the seller.

It's a weird thread. You're sensitive about others being too sensitive?

Pricing is an arcane art. If you're too low, you're clueless. If you're too high the Flipper Squad descends on you. You get it right and somebody is sure to come along and demonstrate sixteen different ways why you're a clueless boob. See number one. Or is it number two?

In any event, pay the price asked, make a private offer, or ignore the thread. It's not all that hard. And don't be sensitive about other's sensitivities.
Amen!

I don't see how this is material as the OP stated that he offered to buy the item. Sure, the method of offer is a little wanting but it was still an offer.

I haven't seen the thread in question, so my response below is only going on what the OP said and assuming all is accurate.

I do generally agree that commenting on the stated price and/or making a public offer is poor form.

However, if the seller "He clearly said he didn’t know the value." and posts at a price that is quite higher than a new item can be had, that is almost fishing for a correction via an offer. Why else state you don't it's value?

If that is indeed what happened, then I can't really fault the OP for making the offer he did, although privately would have been much better.

This is assuming that it all played out as the OP said and the item can still be acquired new at dealers. If not, then ignore the above.

😂 seems like the OP may be right about people being too sensitive, seeing as he was sensitive enough about a removed post to come to GBU and complain. I have had a few of my comments removed and the only thing I feel compelled to do is apologize for inconveniencing a mod.

Thank you Mods, and I'm sorry you have to spend your time removing inappropriate comments from threads.

I responded to a post where a member posted price for a knife. ($365.00) He clearly said he didn’t know the value. I posted what the knife cost new $229.00 but since it was used I offered $200.00
I got no response from seller and yesterday I got a notice my reply was removed. No explanation. I have been around for a while and yes I was a gold member for most of my years here. I’m certainly not as active as before but what is going on? By the way I’m a man. Whoops, saying that I’m a man might offended someone. Sorry.
My man, you made a public low ball offer. I'd have asked a mod to remove that post too. Negotiate in private. Don't low ball. Have a conversation if you think the price is way off and you really want the item. If you are just price policing, don't. Just move along.
