I have a Chris reeve Umnumzaan. And have been nicked and cut by the harpoon edge.
I have been debating wither to keep it or trade it off. Since my last cut.

Would it be possible to send it in and have them tone down that edge a bit, or is it supposed to be sharp?

I sent an email and was told NO. Because the knife would know longer meet their specifications.
And if I grind or change the harpoon edge I will probably void my warranty. I am EDCing my SNG
Until I can decide what to do. I love the knife. Just hate getting cut before I can open it😂😂

Get you a paper towel lay it on a nice flat clean area, put a pea sized amount of vagisil on a qtip, rub wound vigoursly. Repeat procedure as needed

Just use the harpoon to cut things for a few days, it'll dull eventually...

Or just rub it on a coffee mug, like someone already told you. Ceramic will dull it instantly...

It took two weeks for my thumb to heal up . When I sliced it open. I work with my hands like most of us here do.

Ok, so to be clear the harpoon is supposed to be sharp, instead of a false edge?

If it was intended to be sharp, I guess there is nothing that you can do to change that. You could opt for belt sheath carry as I have done with my DGG SMF's because they tear pockets up. If the harpoon is supposed to be a false edge (not sharp) I don't know why they wouldn't fix that for you. I am not familiar with very many folding knives where the back edge is supposed to be sharp. Even on my MSC dagger grind, while it does get pretty narrow on top, the top is flat and will not cut you.

My brother has an Umnumzaan and I have a small Insingo, each has a swedge that is fairly sharp. Never been cut with it but I'm sure it's doable.

What were you doing to cut yourself?

I got myself on it when I first got it. Don't recall how. I laughed it off, I like it kinda sharp. It wasn't that bad of a cut at all though.

I had my keys in the same pocket, wearing shorts. And reaching for my keys, I ran my index finger along the edge .
The worst was when, I reached in my pocket and mistakenly grabbed the open side with my thumb and when I went to pull the knife it snagged. And my thumb was sliced. But good.

Sell/Trade it and buy a knife that can only cut you where it's actually designed to cut.

I will just trade it. There are plenty of Chris reeve guys that will trade for one

800 grit silicon carbide paper will get it to the dullness you want in about 1 minute at most.
You aren't changing the shape, just dulling it enough to not cut you.
No warranty voided, any more so than dulling the primary edge would be.

Mine is semi-sharp, sharp enough to scrape a fingernail, but not enough to cut skin; maybe it would if I really, really tried.

I read that the later one shipped far less sharp due to complaints.

Don't overthink it, just dull it till it's where you want.

The email States, We DO NOT RECOMEND DULLING the Edge. You may void the warranty.

That email will be because of how some folks would overdo it. If you use sandpaper instead of a power tool, you'll be fine, and it won't get ugly either.
