  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

hatchet vs. very large knife?

The machete behaved very well! The Discord is much heavier, it’s even better chopping! But better have strong arms.
I like the whiplike whoosh of the machete.
What I like about this is that he lets the tools do the talking. The rest is up to the viewer. It would be cool if all the tools he compared were the same weight, but that is not the real world, is it?

I know I am late to this discussion; however, I think the choice depends on the environment you are in. I have been watching "Elang Bushcraft" videos on You Tube. The man is in the Indonesian Rain Forests, and looks like Borneo to me. He has a large parang, a pointed one, maybe with a 16" blade and a smaller version, maybe 9" he uses mostly for food preparation. He builds shelters of all sorts using those two parangs and in his environment, IMO a large knife, in his case a parang, is definitely the way to go. John
PS Turns out that the man is on the South Sulawesi island of Indonesia, very thick jungle terrain.
