Hating the USPS right now

I have well over 200 transactions, which have been completed both here, & on CalGuns (as both a buyer & a seller), via the United States Postal Service. Although there have been times, (mainly Christmas time), where I've been worried about the status of a shipment; 100% of the time, I've either received my shipment, or the buyer's received their's...I would say, that that, is very exceptional, stellar service!

Unfortunately, we live in a society, where now, people sometime complain over the most trivial of issues. To these people: "PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE."

Try focusing on the more important matters, in life.

As long as I continue having a 100% success rate, with the USPS, I'll continue riding this awesome, perfect wave...

Well said sailor, we don't all wear tighty whities. 👊🏻

Sometimes "trivial" matters frustrate me, it's part of being a human with a stressful job. All is well now, but your comment didn't contribute and seemed to serve no purpose except showing your true colors like an instigator on the school playground.
By the way- I am wearing boxers as I type this, and they are quite comfortable thank you:)

OK Newbie, i have shipped hundreds of packages and continue to do so using USPS and have experienced only a handfull of delays that were resolved.

Most issues I have seen people have are related to poor packaging or mislabeled.

I think some people would complain about a free beer, just remember this is America and you have options, UPS may suit your needs better. IMO.

Newbie???? I think 3 years and 3k+ posts warrants a removal of that label.

Yes I am entitled to my opnion, just as you are yours. I too have shipped and received 100s of packages via USPS so you are not special nor unique in that regard. I am not complaining about a free beer, but instead a paid service that was not fulfilled. In regards to my comment directed towards you, I was only suggesting you keep your unsolicited comments to yourself, and I maintain that stance.
To get back on track, usps has found my missing package after 9 days and is sending it my way.

Patience is a virtue....I agree....unless I pay extra for Priority and my package takes longer than the bulk rate package that I ordered at the same time. When you pay for a service, that kind of gives you the right to have certain expectations. I no longer go to the McDonalds that takes 25 minutes to get me my order when I am in a hurry to get to work, opting instead to go to the one across town that offers better service. If only I lived closer to Fed Ex or UPS!!!

I also think that the USPS brings a lot of this on themselves with unrealistic expectations. When I mail a package, they always say, "do you want it there day after tomorrow, with Priority they will have it to them by then." So I used to pay more, then email my customer and tell him, "hey, you will have your package by Wednesday!" Of course I get an email the following Friday from the customer that he has not received his package. I go to the Post Office (they don't answer their phones here) and they say, sorry, there is no guarantee. I cringe every time I am in line and I hear the Postal worker tell the little lady in front of me, "Priority is 2 to 3 days!"

I've had over 2000 package transactions via the USPS in the last 3 years. The vast majority of my transactions have shown up within 3 to 5 days, including weekend days. A little over 3 years ago, the main post office in a 50K population town 40 miles away started offering the ability to have FedEx and UPS package delivered there. I live in the boonies and am inflicted with the periodic round of "mailbox shoppers" (scum who follow UPS,USPS and FedEx trucks and steal anything left in a mailbox or on a porch). I choose to get the smallest PO box available and have had every package send there, whether from eBay, ETSY, brick-and-mortar website, or an internet-only based company. This has reduced my loss by theft to zero. Almost all delays have been attributable to the shipper printing out labels and then not dropping the packages off for a while.

With respect to tracking, I was told by the postmaster that if a pre-printed label package is dropped off at the counter, it gets scanned as submitted to the system before getting dropped in one of the big shipping containers for transit to the Austin main post office for re-distribution out of the area.

Any similar package dropped into the package slot out in the lobby may or may not get scanned. Depends on when the package is removed from the drop bin. If the package is in the drop bin and it is close to time for the truck to leave for the Austin facility, every thing in the bin just gets dumped and out the door. It will show up in the system after the first time it gets scanned. This may be in Austin, in Dallas (big PO hub for Texas) or on arrival at the destination.

Items have been lost though. 1 was weather related - USPS package came through Dallas during one of their "toad-choker" thunderstorms. Yje package arrived in central Texas soaked as thoroughly as is washed in a washing machine. A hole had been torn in the package and the Camillus Barlow with white MOP handles was lost to history.

Another loss was entirely on the shipper. A 1930s Bridgeport Boy Scout hatchet was shipped loose in a curling iron box held shut with pieces of tape and a few chunks of wadded up newspaper. Needless to say, said hatchet was lost to the ages.

I have had many packages arrive with the blades sticking out of the box or even through AN ENVELOPE, yes, an envelope. NOT the USPS' problem.

Envelopes, even padded ones, are totally inappropriate for shipping knives, with or without sheaths. PERIOD. I wish eBay would have a 5th question in feedback- Was the package properly assembled. Lots of folks would get 1 star.

I'm guessing that most of the USPS employee's, may possibly feel thee exact same way, regarding some of THEIR customer's.

I am puzzled as to why USPS gets the short end of the stick, when the private players (UPS, FedEx, etc.) ain't any better.

I must disagree with this statement. The USPS tracking system is such that I count on it just to know that something has been shipped.
While the tracking is good for most shipments, sometimes it falls off te radar and suddenly shows up. Oddly, USPS's international mail system has fantastic tracking from POs, sort centers, customs to delivery. But for domestic shipments FEDEX and UPS are far above USPS in terms of tracking accuracy.

Two months ago I sent a 20 year old Benchmade Emerson CQC7 to Benchmade for service. All that was delivered was an empty box, you think the carrier would not just deliver a ripped open box, you would think that Benchmade would get an empty box with the service papers and contact me but they did not. Anyway I filed a claim and since I didnt have a receipt the PO sent me a 25$ check.:(

Sorry if this has been stated I didn't read the whole thread but skimmed through it. I myself only recently discovered the priority express option and from what I have seen its about $15-20 more than priority but is guaranteed. Most of the time overnight and if not 2nd day.

We all three use the same tracking technology. The system is the same....the scanners are the same......

I ordered a Benchmade Contego and a 943 in January. Both hit Richmond CA and promptly disappeared. No delayed message, just gone. I recieved my insurance check for one already and just filed my second one because like I said... these were ordered in January. Both from trusted members of the knife community and whom I've dealt before with on much pricier items. Last time I don't request insurance up to the value of the knife... because getting just $50 back from each priority shipped package for $100 to $200 knives sucks.

So yeah... I definitely feel the hate. The most recent file I claimed, my proof picture was me flipping off their tracking screen. Can't contact facilities, and barely any accountability for the company... I use UPS as much as possible. Least with them you can call a sort facility your item is at and 9 times out of 10 go drive there and pick it up.
