Have You Dealt With Hideaway Knives?

I'm interested in learning from others what their experiences with "Artemis Weapons" have been.

They have told me they are sending my knife so many times, I feel jerked around and teased, like I did in middle school when some fool would ask to see my watch or something, and not give it back for half an hour. "Here you go." then, "No!" followed by, "Oh, all right, you can have it back." as they jerk it away at the last minute.

I actually wanted another model, but Hideaway steered me to something else with the story they didn't have the first made up. HAK said it would help them, and their cash flow, if I'd order something already manufactured. So, I did.

They taked as if it was as good as mailed. Actually, they did say it had been mailed, once. Even gave me a tracking number. But, it's been about 2 months now. They seldom answer emails. If you call them, they just apologise and say it will be mailed, with some freebie tossed in. You thank them, and . . it never comes.

Incredible.

On another thread, somewhere around here, someone said there are several brands which make suitable substitutes.

Even if HAK eventually gets around to sending every buyer their knife, who would want to buy from them? A company which doesn't care about you enough to level with you and say: "there is a wait of 6 months, or a year, or three months" is devaluing the customer. Meaning, if there is an issue with a knife, sheath, etc., you have no confidence they will deal with it in a timely fashion.

They used to be first rate but relied on various makers to supply product. I picked up one made by Strider, I think, and it was just right. I'd be patient but bug them every so often for a firm date.
I've waited so long for knives that it's amazing. I went 7 years on a pre-paid order with Charlie Ochs then told him to drop dead, dirt bag knife makers - they give the industry a bad name. In the end, a person can't wait forever and sometimes you'll lose your money, it's part of the business.

Yes, I have had that same experience with Joe Cordova, went on for almost 2 years. Never again.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for a good knife to get instead of the HAK?

Mine took more than 6 months to arrive. During that time I broke two fingers and the knife never fit correctly. I sold it at a loss.

What features of the knife are you looking for? CRKT used to (might still) make a two finger knife much like the HAK, but they are pretty inexpensive and used I believe AUS4 or AUS6 (or equivalent)
