Have You Ever Converted a Knifeless Friend Into a Every Day Carrier?

Oh, I also turned a coworker into a Spydiefan.

He carried really horrible gas station type knives. One that he loved was going for the "straight razor/pocket knife" look, and actually would've been a neat knife if it wasn't a total POS. He used to sharpen it on this domed dremel grinder we used to buff the inside of tires to fix flats....

Last time I saw him he was carrying a tenacious :)

I've tried but their "Assisted opening Tac-Force" knife works just fine they say. Whenever they bring up knives I leave because I can't stand to hear the crap that comes out of their mouths. Granted, they haven't handled any of mine yet, but I don't know if I can trust them because they'd probably try to throw it at a tree or they'd end up dropping it and snapping the tip off. It makes me mad to hear them talk so highly of a POS knife.

a couple of friends actually. but usually they dont get it.

my outlook on it is "Knives are awesome, right?"

there answers are usually a solid "Meh, i guess so"

To funny I got " Tac Force" on a whim at a gun show last week. It had a cool blade shape I kept it for about a week then gave it one of my employees who doesn't own a knife. He loves it and smiles ear to ear when he flips it out. I felt the same way when I Got my Manix 2 XL last week. I luv giving friends Knife fever once someone is hooked they can't go back.
I told him its a tool or your last defense if needed respect it and it will do the same too you. Then I showed him my ZT 0200
To compare to a $15 Tac Force and I said which one would you want in a bad situation. Needless to say the choice was easy :)

Getting someone to carry a knife and find it useful is fairly easy, I have done that several times. The challenge is getting even that same person to understand why you have a $500 dollar knife, much less use it. (aren't you worried you will lose/break it?)

One of my housemates carries a knife I made him. He works in a warehouse so it gets daily use.

bought my brother a spyderco delica for his birthday , and he loved the thing ...untill he lost it
he sais he wants another tho he liked it so much

Yes. I converted pretty much everyone that works with me (about 8 people). When I first started, my boss gave me that "oh you can't have wepons at work".So I just kept it on the down low. Slowly one person after the other would carry a knife at work.I never did convert my boss but maybe that is for the better. The last time I let him use one of my knives (a SAK farmer)he stabbed himself in the hand. Everyone else has a functioning brain so they are safe knife users.

A fishing buddy of mine always asked to borrow my knife, then I got tired of that so I gave him one of my old uncle henrys. He hasn't asked since and that was 7 yrs ago.

Visited my brother interstate a couple of weeks ago and gave him a Leatherman Wingman, Vic Classic and a Bear Grylls USK (which I had bought on the cheap for curiosity's sake but will never use). He thinks all are cool, carries the Wingman everywhere, and last weekend did a 150km charity bike ride where he used the end of the nail file on the Classic to fix a problem on another guy's bike that none of their bike specific kits could fix.

He's not at the Spyderco/Kershaw/ZT level yet, and probably never will be, but he's worked out the value in having sharp tools close at hand. :)

Buddy at work saw one of my spydies two days later he had a tenacious. Week later a cryo and some cheap little necker fixed blade. Lol

I had a room mate who owned a small gerber when we met and kept it in a drawer. However, when we became friends and he realized how often I used mine since I carried it, he began carrying one all the time too. It's a good feeling.

I have converted three of my coworkers. In our automotive repair shop we all run into needing to cut something open on a daily basis. After I caught the knife nut bug I would have to break out my newest knife for inspection by friends at work. We have monthly performance and productivity contests. I started giving out inexpensive but cool knives as the prize. Knives like the Kershaw tremor and CRKT Hammond cruiser. Now we all have to show off our newest and coolest knives. Lots of fun!

Wife carries a Vic Classic on her keys now. Has used the scissors, file and tweezers. She's not a knife person at heart, but at least she values the other tools.

My brother, after the second knife I gave him, Kershaw JYD composite blade, he carries it every day since Christmas. First one I gave him a few years ago and he never really "got" it.

Yep, my little brother, girlfriend and best friend.
My bro was just being nosey one day while i was window shopping bladehq and saw a kershaw tremor, pulled a 20 out and said order that. So I did and he has it on him 24/7 minus school. That probably wouldn't go over well. He has since took a liking to the large beefy blades.
I got my gf to carry my money clip victorinox at least in her purse on the off chance she actually used her purse, which is rare. and she has a cheap dollar store knife in her truck as well, she doesn't know she needs a knife yet. poor girl.
My buddy has plenty of cheap knives that are now spent but never really carried one, just sat in his truck or toolbox. I ordered him a ak74 tanto being nice and he liked it so much he ordered the reverse tanto as well so he can have two, he lost the tanto though, its floating around somewhere in his house or yard probably. He cought the clip on something and snapped it off within a few days.

My wife and a co-worker. I gave my wife a throwaway leatherman crater to keep in her purse. I catch her using it all the time.

My co-worker and good friend is the head bartender at the restaurant I was employed at. He used to see me pulling out my Swiss Army Tinker on a daily basis and would joke that I was in a gang:) He was over at our house for a BBQ and I showed him my collection. He focused in on my Leatherman Wave. He was like a little kid once he started pulling out all the different tools. That next week he bought a Leatherman Wingman and now takes it to work everyday and when he goes fishing.

I threw him an extra Kershaw Tremor I had at Xmas. He loved the thing. That isnt EDC but whenever he fishes or goes out he has it on him now.

I gifted a buddy at work a SOG twitch 2 two years ago and he never goes anywhere without it. Also he has abused the shit outta it and its still going strong.

I got over half the post office carrying Leeks or Blurs. After using mine a guy bought a "lot" of Leeks off Fleebay and handed them out. Now I am tasked with keeping them sharp!

Yes sorta. A good friend and now member here always admired a good knife. Even had a few decent blade for camping or hunting. But after many years of friendship he now carries a knife full time like I do. Has a very nice collection built up and some very nice and rare knives too.
