Have you EVER felt the need to use your knife for self defence?

I carry a knife firstly as a tool, but I will not back away from using it in self defense. I will however evaluate the situation very thoroughly and possibly only use it as a fistload or use a pen or similar thing as a weapon. Don't want to get in trouble with the law for defending myself.

Everytime I get a new knife and my wife lecture's me...I feel like it!!!!

Check her amount of shoes/purses, look for brands and realize she probably didn't tell you that a lot of them cost $50-$100+

Then tell her to never bother you about getting knives again until she stops getting shoes and purses. After all, she would ever only need 2 pairs of shoes and 2 purses for practical purposes.

A knife is a tool.

I carry my knife for these reasons most:

1. EDC / utility tool - 95%
2. Emergency Survival tool - 4.8%
3. Last ditch self defense tool - 0.2%

And by self defense I don't mean against people, but against the stray rabid dog / coyote that I might come across.

Yes it would, but don't give credence to all the people who think you cannot carry a tactical knife in Canada, BECAUSE YOU CAN!!!
You just can't SAY it's being carried as a weapon, and let's face it, most of us will use our "tactical" knives to deanimate oranges, cut open a box, or cut a steak when the restraunt gives yo a really crappy steak knife.
I'll never get why so many people, even IN Canada, think you can't carry a knife in Canada. Makes no damn sense.

There is a lot of misinformation going around. The guy at my local knife store tells everybody that you must carry the knife clipped in your pocket with the pocket clip visible, otherwise it is considered a concealed weapon.

In doing my own research I've found that to be total BS. The instant you consider your knife a weapon and not a tool is when it becomes illegal to carry. And there are certainly no laws about having a concealed tool. (please skip the obvious jokes :D)

Where in Canada are you?
