Have you ever found a knife?

I'm just wondering if anyone here has ever found a knife. So far I have not been lucky enough to find anything cool in a park or public area. However, I did find a $5 Winchester folding knife once near the side of a road. Anyone have any better stories/finds?

i have never found a knife in a public area. if i did find a knife i would shovel it into a bag and hand it over to law enforcement. they might want to run some ballistics or fingerprints on it. you never know.

What ballistics on a knife? Also I have never found one myself but the guy I was working with one day found a spydercos caly 3 carbon fibre in zdp189

I found a small sebenza in a parking lot of a gun store two years ago. It had initials ingraved in it, and it was obvious that it was a worry bead for someone as it had almost an indention where someone had rubbed their thumb on the scales over and over in one spot. I ran ads in all the local papers, as well as a few online local publications. Several weeks later, a man called almost in tears, described the knife perfectly, and wanted to pay me to retrieve the knife. No money was exchanged, as it was enough for me to return such a used beauty to its rightful owner. Words can not describe how thankful he was. It made me feel quite good. A week later I came home and found a new s30v kershaw blur in my mail box with a heartfelt note attached. That man has actually become a good friend and we often get together and talk knives as well as compare new blades.

I might do that if I was in a high-crime area. For the purposes of this thread, I was talking about innocently finding a knife near a camp site, or a fishing hole, or out on a hike, not about finding a potential murder weapon/piece of evidence.

Jup, a fake Victorinox under the seat of my Porsche 944. Can't get it out so it is still there. :D

Found a Leatherman while mountain biking in Montana about 6 years ago. From the condition, it had been there a few weeks, but some steel wool and decent lube turned it into a wonderful tool that sits in my glove box.

I found a little Kershaw Chive on the ground near the entrance to a music festival grounds. I asked a few people camping nearby if anyone had lost a knife, and no one claimed it. I do not feel bad about keeping it, seeing as it was rusty as hell and painfully unsharpened. Now it is almost as good as new after re-profiling the edge on sharp maker, working the rust out with some elbow grease, and re-assembling the knife.

I love that story, good on you man.

Found a Mora while backpacking in Sisters, Oregon. Considered for a moment taking it, but decided someone else might need it more since I already had a similar model with me. Also found the occasional cheap folder on job sites when I worked construction, but nothing memorable.

I just hope that if I ever loose something like that, the person who finds it will help it find it's way home.

That made me smile. :)

Wow.

I once saw a Spyderco or Byrd knife laying in the middle of the road when I was driving. It was partially open and had a black handle but the blade shape screamed Spyderco/Byrd.

However, it was on a very busy road and I couldn't get out of my car and retrieve without getting killed.

Hopefully, nobody ran over it and destroyed their tires.

I was introduced to Victorinox by virtue of finding one (early Sportsman model) in the lawn at a public swimming pool. It had been there for awhile and 1/2 buried into the ground by feet and machine tires but did clean up nicely. I was only 12 years old but the cheap single-blade pocket knife I had carried up til then was quickly relegated to the junk drawer. I have never been without a Victorinox in my pocket ever since and that's now been almost 50 years. I've lost a couple, worn out a few, broken one, had one stolen and to this day keep a new spare at home only because the model I prefer is often not available or not in stock. I did learn one lesson early on; skinned a fox and mink one time and in haste tossed the knife into a pot of boiling water to disinfect it because it also did duty as my bachelor steak knife. The red plastic scales warped, disfigured and shrunk!

That almost made me cry. :)
