Have you ever found a knife?

Went hiking during an early spring thawing around a marshland and I somehow spotted a black knife among all the dead brown/tan marsh grasses. Pulled it out and saw that it was a Benchmade Grip knife full of rust on both sides. Cleaned it up and kept it ever since. Only bad part is when I open the knife, the bearings seems to grind inside like something small is in the way of the bearings. Haven't opened it up yet to clean it out.

LadyEarth, you might be able to sent your griptilian into Benchmade to be cleaned. I know they sharpen their knives for $5, but I don't know if they charge to have a knife taken apart and cleaned. Nice Find.

I just might do that! I'll see what I can find about that right now. Thanks EDC, I keep forgetting I can "call" upon such services from those various companies. :p

found a fairbairn sykes knife trapped behind a cast iron radiator on a dutch barge ,
took some real coat hanger wizardry to get it out .....funny thing is i think i lost it somehow ??

Found an el cheapo in a parking lot once and left it laying right where I found it.

I found a Imperial Camp King while hiking in the woods about ten years ago and I still have it! Though I guess it doesn't count because I was the one who lost the knife in the first place...

found my own mini griptilian in a pair of waders. rusted shut and destroyed by time. Heartbreaking

I found a small sebenza in a parking lot of a gun store two years ago. It had initials ingraved in it, and it was obvious that it was a worry bead for someone as it had almost an indention where someone had rubbed their thumb on the scales over and over in one spot. I ran ads in all the local papers, as well as a few online local publications. Several weeks later, a man called almost in tears, described the knife perfectly, and wanted to pay me to retrieve the knife. No money was exchanged, as it was enough for me to return such a used beauty to its rightful owner. Words can not describe how thankful he was. It made me feel quite good. A week later I came home and found a new s30v kershaw blur in my mail box with a heartfelt note attached. That man has actually become a good friend and we often get together and talk knives as well as compare new blades.

The world needs more people like this! Good on you sir!

Bittersweet post. I've returned phones on two occasions- but that is so easy. Just call the last number and give them an address. A small sebenza...just sitting there...with nothing to go on- presents a real dilemma. Made me question whether i would have done the same. If i'm ever in a similar situation, I'll remember this post.

Not only does a guy get his knife back and a these two become friends, but a guy in Texas takes a moment to examine his moral fortitude.

I found a crappy gerber at my shooting spot. I just was looking for brass and found it laying there...

Back in the 90s when I did a lot of globe trotting for work, I found an SAK, (Champion) in the crease of the airplane seat, that was back in the day when you could take a knife on a plane.

Try that today. ;)

Found a case folder outside my house. Was a stroke of luck because Case is my favorite knife brand.

Such a wonderful story and deed!

Long ago I found a muddy buck in the bushes (used to play tag with the neighbor hood kids).

I cant recall what I did with it.

must of been 25 years ago.

I have found four or five over the years. I have found some rusted junk too. I concern myself with finding the knives that I have misplaced "somewhere" inside my house....

As much as I would love to have a "new" Sebenza their are far better ways to acquire one. I would enjoy returning it to the grateful owner just to see the reaction.
Great story and it shows your impeccable integrity sir.
