Have you ever handed over your blade to help a stranger?

I have helped strangers a couple of times with my knife, but I did it, as I never hand over my knife to a stranger.

No, never to help out. There were two instances when hanging around with people in high school where someone asked to see the knife I was carrying (most knew I had one) and then joked around about not giving it back or doing something stupid with it. After getting the knife returned eventually both times and letting the individuals know how serious I was about wanting my property back I resolved to never let anyone touch whatever knife I carry.

I loaned a SAK to my wife's cousin. He is obviously not a knife guy and he promptly cut himself. I did feel a little bad for him.

I remember loaning my knife out to someone when I was in the service. When I got it back, the blade looked like a cross cut saw because the knife was used to cut stainless steel commo wire. That was about twenty years ago but, I am still willing to loan out my knife. It just depends upon what knife I have on my person and what is going on around me.

Friends - Yes, with a warning it's sharp and don't be stoopid.

Strangers - Probably not.... but maybe circumstance dependent. If I ran into a Dudly DoRight trying to rescue Nell who had been tied up on train tracks by Snidley Whiplash..... Ok, then I might lend him my knife.

Loan a knife to a stranger? HA. Not even close. Other guy needs a knife, and it's for a task that isn't any concern of mine, he's on his own. It's not personal, I just spend entirely too much of my disposable income on knives to allow those with an unknown level of knife-handling familiarity touch my expensive stuff.

It's a double edged sword, pun intended:D

On one hand Jesus said "lend a man knife and he will cut once, teach him to carry it EDC and he will always be prepared!":D

On the other hand, give a stranger knife and he decidedes to go postal and start stabbing and cutting inocent people, now you are part of murder/terrorist conspiracy and liable for damages!

So to answer OP no I don't lend knives to strangers ever!!!!!
But I do lend cheap small beaters to family and friends:rolleyes:

Wolf, thats awesome first time I've read that one

Last time I lended a knife out it was a cold steel code 4 xhp. In a bowling ally arcade. The guy saw it in my pocket and asked if he could use it real quick. I said go for it. He then tried to unscrew a battery box on something he won out of a quarter operated prize machine. I grimaced, he handed me back the knife, unscathed, he showed me the toy's screw, totally stripped. 😜
Taiwan 1, China 0

I used to work at a nursery and brought 4 delicas to work every day for my coworkers until they bought them off of me.

I once had someone borrow my para 2 to use to jam the tip into coin slot of an arcade machine.

When he handed it back to me i was so suprised, that i forgot to be mad, and this was someone i had know for 12 years.

so now im a bit leery to hand my blades out to anyone.

Strangers? Nope. Never. I'm hesitant to let anyone use em unless I'm sure they know how to use it.

Dang that's way worse than my arcade story!!!

.....Here's an interesting little story about lending a knife to a stranger- As a teenager, a friend of mine was fishing off a pier. There was another teen fishing nearby. This other teen asked my friend if he could borrow his knife. My friend, being a nice guy, handed over his knife. After the guy cut what he wanted to cut, he said to my friend "Thanks for the knife", closed the knife, and put it in his pocket. He STOLE my friends knife. And what could my friend do? There were no cops around. And even if there had been, my friend had no way to prove it was his knife. It would be his word against the other guys. And my friend wasn't a tough guy, he wasn't going to fight the guy to try and get his knife back.

The moral of that story is- Not everybody in this world is an honest, trustworthy, upstanding person. And sometimes when you lend out your stuff, you may not get it back. My friend was minus one knife, but he had learned a valuable lesson.

What would you do if you lent your knife (perhaps a nice knife) to a total stranger, and they decided to keep it? Could you prove that it's yours? There are certainly lots of unethical people in this world. And you can't tell who they are just by looking at them.

Makes me wonder what your friend would fight FOR....

Tell ya one thing: I"d get it back.

I've thought about that...where once someone has it, how DO you prove ownership of the knife? I know every detail of my better knives. I think I could convincingly demonstrate ownership in a showdown, maybe with a cop present, by identifying quirks or cosmetic features the thief couldn't in such a short time frame.

Anyone truly worried about it should at a minimum place an identifying mark or two on the knife as inconspicuously as possible. Anything serial numbered be damn sure you have it written on the receipt at home...or at least written somewhere.

I used to at my old job all the time. It was a warehouse and also for cutting boxes and shrink wrap. I would see like 5 guys screwing around with wrap and just cut down it with my knife or let someone else use it real quick. It was pretty cool to see within a few months almost everyone had a knife on them. And since they would ask me about all my knives, i would see a handful of good ones around the warehouse(vics, cheap spydies, kershaws).

Yeah sure...Blade first!

I am hesitant to hand some one I don't know well my knife to use for anything. Generally I don't. I am also hesitant to hand some one I DO know my knife to cut something with unless I am watching. My general feeling with people I do know is, get your own knife.

Up until recently I hadn't typically carried a pocket knife. I mainly would edc a fixed blade and leatherman wave and I certainly wasn't handing over one of my fixed blades to someone who likely doesn't know how to handle a knife.

So the last time someone asked to borrow my knife a let em use the blade on my wave. I'm honestly not sure Wtf they used it for but the edge looked like saw teeth. I had to remove ALOT of steel to fix it. Ever since then if someone asks to borrow my knife it's either a no or what needs cut I'll get it for you.

If it someone I know - YES, and I supervise them with the cutting task.

If it is someone I don't know - depending on what they are cutting, I will either help them by doing the cutting task myself, or else say NO I don't have a knife on me.

Never did and never will. Not that I'm paranoid about the knife itself, but I'm afraid of anyone cutting themselves or getting hurt using my knife.

I I loan my knife to someone and he cuts himself, how would I feel? Plus I don't want someone else's blood on my knife other than my own.
