Have you ever made a FIND?

A friend of mine found this fella in a attic trunk at an estate sale in Texas. He thought he was in tall cotton with the 200 bucks I gave him for it. It is worth every bit of a thousand. The seller was happy, he was happy and needless to say, so was I.

I picked up a little morseth skinner and 3 doziers at a pawn shop for $55.00 once. I made a little money on that one. :D I also picked up a morseth sleave dagger for $45.00 at a gun show. I still have that one in my collection.

Hey,

New to the forum. Found it while looking for info on a cs master tanto (old school japan edition)

Anyway here's my find...literally!

My wife and I had just turned onto the highway from our subdivision and happened to see a truck and camper pull away from a rest stop aways ahead of us.

I thought I saw something fall off the rig or it ran over something in the road. We stopped and saw this knife. I pulled it from it's sheath and was immediately impressed.

We continued into town with half a mind of trying to track down the tourist with no luck. Anyway it has made it's way into our minimal collection....I say our because my wife picked this one to call hers as she seemed to think I had enough knives and she had none.

Part of the reason for stumbling into this forum is that I took out the knife today and was horrified to see not one but two shallow round dents in the edge of the blade! I had kept the edge in very nice shape and this really pissed me off! We have two teenage sons and as is typical in these situations no one seems to know anything.

Seemed like the thing to do was do some research and find out how much other folks like this knife thereby deepening the hurt I felt when I saw the damage. Probably not as much as the original owner when the knife was discovered missing though.

The dents are around 1/64 of an inch deep so I think I can bring it back ok but still.....

Anyway...Hello all

A guy that works for my dad found a mint Jim Ence sub-hilt dagger with engraving at a pawn shop for $50. Then he haggled him down to $40. The knives is easily worth $1500.

I've got some early, original Nick Wheeler knives, and they didn't cost me a dime ;)

-Nick-
(actually they probably cost me several thousand each)

A pair of Harvey Deans at Oregon this year.Camp Knives. One Damascus and the other forged.$1800.00 for the pair
Still cannot believe they sat on the guys table for two days.

Randy, I saw these too and handled them some, didn't have the scratch though. The dealer was a pretty saavy guy and a lot of fun too. He had a beautiful Hendrickson this year.

If you get a chance to talk with him next year, he will probably have his Moran tanto with him - the one that takes apart with a pin through the handle. Now that piece is the shnitz.

Back to the original question - No, I have never stumbled upon a find. Numerous excellent buys, but never one to tell stories about.

About a year and a half ago,I bought a Terzuola Battleguard from a Pawn shop for $75,and sold it to a friend in Thailand for over $600.

I picked up a Kilby bowie at a pawn shop in New Hampshire for $100. It is marked JS has oosik and stag handle. Great looking knife.

I snagged the third knife ever made by James Rodebaugh, M.S. on the exchange here.

I also got Bailey Bradshaw's third DB Folder with Rowe leather sheath for a song in a package deal after I sold the other knives in the package.

One of a friend just bought a mint Spyderco Starmate at the flea market for 25$.

While, my best fine is this 3 7/8" Bill Burke Pronghorn for about 600$ . . .

I once "found' a Cronk ivory skinner in a pawn shop for $150 and sold it for $5000 through Nordic. Yup.

A few years later I purchased a J. N Cooper bowie for $400 and it ebayed for $1800 the following week.

Oh well.

Three years ago at Harrisonburg, Va I bought a Rick Dunkerly damascus hunter for 100.00. I gave it to my youngest son. He had one that all most matched it. And I don't collect damascus. He still has it.

Also, from the Harrisonburg Va. show.. I bought a small Case pocketknife for $25, walked across the room and sold it for $250. From a dealer and to a dealer. I owned it for 5 minutes, max.

I had a common 30/30 rifle I wanted to sell or trade.I went to a gun show where I have found the best knife buys and saw a darkened Jambiya.I traded the rifle and took my knife home.Five years later I was getting married,my cousin came to the wedding and later at my house saw my Jambiya--He had lived and worked with bedoin and saudis in the middle east and reconized my knife. He was amazed I had this and told me it was from Yemen , from a wealthy man and he said the handle and the scabard were silver. We cleaned part of it ad the dark color turned a beautiful silver. It is a big knife and the last gun show I went to several people offered me $ for it but Ive become too attached. My best knife buys are at gun shows where they are not as well versed on blades.I have picked up 2 wootz steel mid east knives for a fraction of their worth.

My father owns a pawn shop and I have seen a number of unusual and quality knives go for cheap. I just started collecting but wish I had the sense to grab these deals

I recently picked up a morseth marked knife without sheath at his shop. Looking for a book or person with some additional information about morseth stampings and construction.

An early KaBar Hobo knife, which slide apart for twenty bucks
A case hatchet/knife combo for thirty bucks
A ruana and one hundred dollars cash for an old winchester 69a

These are just a few, and not counting all of the military stuff I seen go unchecked. I am keeping a closer watch on what comes in now.

On my visit there last year, Bob told me there are plenty of pawn shops down in AR. Especially in the town of Springdale. Too bad I didn' t get to cruise around to do some Dozier shopping! But it turned out okay. I made a few of my own in his shop!

Oh yeah, I found some Randall mades at a stoop sale from an elderly lady whose husband passed away. Got all 3 for way less than what the price of one would cost now.

Almost too many to list...I search out the bargains; Ron Welling Scagel Style Hatchet, $250; Jim Downs liner lock with damascus bolsters and creamy white mammoth ivory $425; CASE W. R. Case and Son Bradford Pa Office Knife $5; I can go on...

A friend of mine and I refer to the sellers of these finds as charter members of the buy high sell low club!
