I was thinking about some of the higher decorated knives, Benchmade Gold class, spyderco damascus LEs, things like that.
I know they are tools, and I dont Think I would have reservations about using a Gold class, but... Solely based upon that hesitation, I don't know if I would purchase one.
On the other hand, I wouldn't feel awkward using a Sebenza, Curtiss or something else more "plain" looking though equally expensive or more so.
So have you ever purchased a knife with the jntent on using it, and thought it too pretty to use?
IMHO, buying a BM gold class is different than buying a high end knife. I've said it in another thread, but the gold class is like taking a Honda Civic and putting a turbo, bigger engine and body kit on it, whereas a Sebenza, William Henry, etc, is a whole different class, like an Acura, BMW, etc. The gold class still has the soul of the original knife.
I don't buy knives I won't use. Superficial aesthetics just don't appeal to me. I'd much rather have an M390 Ritter Grip than a Gold class grip. The closest thing to a "pretty knife I didn't use" was my Brian Tighe mini Tighe Rod. But it wasn't because it was pretty, it just didn't fit my hand right.
Same here. In the morning I get to pick from the best knives and lights in the world. It's a great feeling, and a horrible time deciding! That's why I end up leaving the house with so many!
OK I want this one today. Oh but I have to take you! And you! , oh and a fixed blade, and a light. Oh and a backup key chain light.
So have you ever purchased a knife with the intent on using it, and thought it too pretty to use?
If you do keep buying knife after knife just to use, it seems wasteful to me. You already own a number of perfectly good users and you keep buying more just to use?
(actually, I do have way more knives than pants, shirts and shoes...)
