Have you ever purchased a knife then felt that it was too pretty to use?

It's definitely happened to me! Any knife I can't bring myself to carry ends up getting sold however!

Latest example was a Rassenti Snafu with a two tone blade, happy to report the new owner has made it a user though!

Oh my god, that's about the sexiest thing I've seen in a long time! But I also see that it's well out of my price range..... Darn

I really like this makers designs though.

I have bought a lot of custom hunting knives for my collection with no intention of ever using them, but I buy folders to use.

I have bought a few that I couldn't bring myself to use for whatever reason. I generally don't buy real fancy folding knives because I buy them to use. And it doesn't take a fancy knife to keep me from using it, I might hesitate to use a knife that was valuable due to being rare.

I purchased a Mcusta from Heinnie Haynes years ago with the full intention of using it. But it only went into the pocket one time and I just couldn't bring myself to do it again. The knife feels so solid in the hand, I'm sure it would be fine. I would just hate for that mirror finish to get scuffed up though. I have not seen this model available in the states, which adds to the dilemma.

No, my knives are for cutting things and using it as a tool. I don't buy knives to keep as jewelry or just take pretty pictures of it.

Yes.
I even had a hunter made to my specs and when it arrived it had a mirror finish - way too nice to use.

Not many collectors in this thread, and no traditionals that I noticed. Personally I think there's absolutely nothing wrong with collecting knives just for the sake of looking at them. Plenty of people do it with coins, or action figures, stamps, whatever. Collecting things is a fine hobby. Knives are beautiful. Collecting knives just makes sense.

Here's a few of my traditionals, none of which have ever been used:

Sure there are.
I have a collection of knives that get used. :)
They're mine; I sure ain't selling them.

I like to get them new (other people's usage marks tend to piss me off...I don't know why), and then I use them.
But to say it isn't a collection just because they used?
Nope, that wouldn't make sense.

About 2 years ago I had 2-3 knives: smith & wesson something, kershaw cryo & a walther something. I wouldn't buy a spyderco or ZT because dam they were $100 to $200. That was ridiculous to me and I would feel bad to use them.

Well... I say an RJ Martin Q36 & Shirogorov on a video and had to have it. I was shocked to see that Q36s are $1800+ if you can find one, Shirogorov $1000-1300. I wanted one real bad but was conflicted because there is no way I would use it, why would I buy a knife I wouldn't use? I took the plunge and bought a brand new Shirogorov mod 95 w/SRBS with the intent to use it. After getting it, there was no way to use it, its art to me. The level of quality and artistry was insane. Next thing I know, I got 13+ customs, some very expensive stuff. Yesterday I just got a custom Hoback A10 that I swore I was going to carry, after getting it, it again is just too pretty. Today I'm getting a custom Direware with damasteel and I won't be using that either.

Sometimes, knives are just art and I don't feel like I can use them. That's just me, I have become a collector. I still carry my kershaw cryo and use it for anything.

Here is some knife porn, none of these have ever been used, and I don't feel the least bit guilty anymore. Just accept it, too each his own, lol:
