Have you ever seen anything creepy?

Namida,
Aswang???? ;) Asawa ko and her barkada also hiked Makiling once and turned aorund 1/2 though trip. Due to jitters over aswang rumors and presence of NPA.

Great thread btw! I've got a little story I can contribute.

My aunt and uncle own 80+ acres up in Indiana, the property has a lot of history associated with it and is complete with slave walls, a "haunted" house that no one will live or sleep in anymore due to past incidents, an abandoned tobacco farm, a well stocked pond, and two cabins that the family stays in on a regular basis. In the summers when I was very young I would visit my family in Cincinnati and my uncle would take my sister and I up to the property to spend the night, do some fishing, hike, shoot some guns, and have a great few days in the outdoors. A tradition of ours was to lay on hay bails in the fields and count shooting stars at night. One night in the middle of summer after watching an amazing meteor shower we were making our way back to the cabins, my uncle holding my sisters hand and my aunt holding mine. All of a sudden I had an eerie feeling that there was a presence in the woods about 20 feet from us. I looked to my left past my aunt and saw what looked like a lightly colored green aura, similar to fog, which quickly faded away. I made no mention of what I saw but immediately asked my aunt what was in the woods to the left of the trail. To my surprise she told me, "Well, sweety there's an old grave yard over there..." Creepy! It turns out that the grave yard was used by members of a family that had once owned the property. There were family members, soldiers from the civil war, and slaves buried there. I've always loved visiting the property in Indiana but there is always a feeling associated with certain areas of the land that make you feel as if you are not just in the company of those around you.

Hahaha, no, but damn if I have an idea. I just know that its out there. Some forest rangers who had worked on the area for almost two decades would sometimes find themselves lost over their territory. One story a ranger shared with me, they we're having some alcohol (or about to have) and some roasted meat (can't remember if it was pork or chicken). Right in front of them, it disappeared. They just couldn't find it and it was no tale of drunkenness. A few years back a doctor fell to his death on a very steep ridge line, before he plunged to his death, he said he heard a child crying, and tried perhaps to locate it. The weight of his backpack apparently pulled him down.

Even so it is my favorite place to date. Here are some pictures from that solo hike:

This place is a real mind bender for me. It is really beautiful. But care and respect for it must be highly regarded when entering the place, at least that is my belief anywhere anyway :)

I just recently noticed how similar the words Aswang and Asawa are... ;)

It really looks amazing. My wife and I plan to relocate to the Phils in around 9 years but she warns me that I will not have the freedom to safely hike there that I do here. She warns that it can be dangerous for small groups of Filipinos yet alone for a Kano.

It is indeed very different down here Bill. For example, I cannot wear tactical clothes (and we all know how tough mil surp clothes are compared to outdoor specific clothes), it could mean certain and immediate death or torture then certain death. I hike alone most of the time but my usual destinations are known not to have any insurgency problem, but it pays to be careful still.

I did a day hike in an island called Samar. My friends insisted that I be accompanied by a local even if the trail was really straight forward. Halfway through the hike we passed by a group of men supposedly bringing down crops from the farm steads in the highlands. Our party and theirs both stopped at that same point and I went to inspect the waterway and the falls and left my companion with the group of men as they we're chatting. When we went on our way, my companion informed me that the men we're asking about me, where I came from, what I do, why was I there. I figured, if my companion didn't feel threatened, he would have just ignored the prodding and perhaps didn't have to make up a story and hide my identity to those men. Their presence in the mountains are well documented and are kept up to date, but the danger is always there.

Another danger are bush fires that are meant to clear grass lands. It's really destructive and indiscriminate at times. I met a hiker on a campsite ones and he explained to me how they witnessed a bush fire as they were ascending. They will have been trapped if they hadn't sprinted down the treeline which was also quite dangerous. This things happen rarely but they do happen.

You could say i fear men more than whatever super natural forces are out there.

If you visit here and want to have some dirt time, I could accompany you :-)

Namida,
I would be happy to some woods time. I do not fear the supernatural- I recognize things exist, just do not fear them.

My wifes family in Bicol pays tax to local NPA. They get on fine with them but understand that they are the law in that area. I asked if I could be introduced as a non threatening friend but was told it is not accepted. No matter my personal nature, the fact I was born in the US makes me a lifelong enemy. In the South is a religious divide and nothing divides men stronger than religion. I work with people of Islamic faith and call them my friends but in some areas people do not have that tolerance.

There is a basement door at my grandparents home- dates back to before 1784, you can lock it at bedtime, but it will be unlocked in the morning. One room in that house is always colder than any other- year around. Just facts of life.

I dont even believe in ghost, but I spent the night in a building and I was up twice trying to find the people banging , slamming doors , walking up the stairs and such. I could hear them loudly always in the room below but when I entered there would be complete silence. I was bewildered and only heard the stories about the place being haunted the next day. I still cant explain it. It was not a run down building and the doors were locked from the inside.I am convinced it was not a practical joker because I searched everywhere possible . The downstairs was just one room and there were no hiding places. It was a place where I worked and a lot of fellow employees believe it to be haunted.

I'm the sort that I don't count it out. I want to believe there are spirits or ghosts, but haven't really experinced anything tangible that I can recount.

I do have something that borders on a possibilty though. My house was built in the 30's, and was originally the site of a small farmstead. It is now a complete residential neighborhood. The house has had 2 additions over the years prior to my purchasing it, one of which is the bedroom my son occupies.

He is still young, and this original red flag occurred about a year ago. We keep an audio-only baby monitor in his room, since there is separation between his room and ours upstairs. The monitor is the sort where it isn't supposed to intercept foreign signals. I clearly heard 2 voices in conversation one evening on the monitor. I lifted my head, and my wife asked if I heard it as well. It then happened again almost right away. Downstairs I went, 12ga. in hand. Nothing to note, and my boy was sleeping. It's possible that it was a stray signal from a cordless phone or 2-way radio, but it was distinctly clear.

My boy got to the age of playing with a flashlight at bedtime. I had bought him a cheap one that ran on AA's so they were easy to replace, so the light was about the size of a mini-maglite. At bedtime one evening, it couldn't be located. We tore the room apart looking for it, removed all the bedding, moved the bed and mattress, etc. It was no where to be found. After some consolation, we were back to getting him ready for bed, and there it was, laying immediately in the center of his mattress. I've had things come up missing before, and still can't locate a knife to this day that I lost in the house.

Which brings me to my dream. I am not prone to sleep paralysis. This dream was quite vivid. I distinctly remember a being coming to me in my sleep, and spelling out it's name for me, as if drawing it in the air so I could read it. I also remember saying, even aloud, that this was my house, and it was not welcome here. I was semi-concious for some reason and heard myself say it. After I woke up for the day, I researched the name, as I had never heard it before. Turns out it was an ancient Celtic name, as in so ancient it doesn't get used anymore. Or the being was dyslexic, becuase if I spell the name backwards, it is a common female name still in use today. It is also my deceased Aunt's name.

There have been no instances since then that I am aware. There has been a brief period lately where my boy has been scared of shadows at night, to the point of shivering and crying. We've tried to dismiss it, by moving things around to show him what the shadows are that he sees. My wife also took down a piece of plastic which was covering the window for the cold weather and had started flapping in the breeze. We don't tell him he's wrong, or just seeing things, but rather try to help explain it.

Creepy thread to read before biking alone through Pt. Roberts at night, pitch black except for my surefire and bike light. By bike i don't mean motorbike, I'm talking about a mountain bike. There's only streetlight a on the one main road, my friend lives about as far away from the main road as you can get. These three incidents all happened at or on my way to his house at night.

Last time I did that I shined the flashlight into the forest on my right at an animals eye shine. About 3 meters into the forest perched on top of a log was what looked to be large spotted cat. It looked back at me, that look it gave me is now printed in my mind. I biked faster and patted my hip and reassuringly my knife was there. My friend who's house I was on my way to says it must have been a coyote, problem with that theory is that I know what coyotes look like and I know what what I saw looked like, they're not the same.

Another creepy story in Pt Roberts as well, last summer at my friends house we played a huge game of manhunt (basically a game of tag where the people that are "it" stay it until everyone's caught). About 15 people on an acre or two, the game is over and somebody's missing. After searching and calling out his name he finally surrenders his position to us claiming he thought the game was still going and he's hiding with somebody else but he doesn't know who. He's hiding out at the edge of the property line that's bordered by blackberry bushes and a steep trail going down a cliff, named "the coyote trail" by the landowners. They call it that because of the coyotes howling from that direction every night. So when we tell him everybody's here except for him, he goes pale and we're all thinking the same thing. He claims to have spoken to it and it replied once. I head down there backed by 2 other people, at first we throw rocks and hear something in the bushes. Knives on the edge of their sheaths, flashlights scanning and silence once again. We all went inside after that.

Another story, exact same place as the second story, manhunt again. We chased my friends older bother into the same area as the last story and he just stopped and said to me, hand me your flashlight. We could tell something was up. Knives drawn this time, slowly backed away and gathered everybody else up and went inside.

Funny thing is, during the day you don't even worry about anything while you're there. In fact it's actually my favourite local hiking spot.

The human mind naturally accepts magic. Belief in a higher power, thinking because you threw a stone at the water you may be drown in it. Things of that sort. Probably the biggest weakness in humanity, but maybe it also gives us the want and need to explore and invent. Anyways magic isn't real just keep that in mind! Ghosts, god, luck, etc.

I'm glad someone with a serious inkling for the paranormal like Tyr is here on BF.

Here in my country (Philippines), we have a respected lecturer, author and speaker named Jaime Licauco and no, he is not some "New Agey" kind of guy but actually does serious research and history into the matters of the beyond, including metaphysical and psychic phenomena.

One has to understand that the idea of the "unseen folk" or "elementals" if widely known in many cultures (Westerners popularly call them the fairy folk). The Norwegians/Swedish/Finnish, the Irish, the Japanese, etc. It's all part of our "collective memory" from the past and it wouldn't survive for so long if it didn't have some iota of truth in them. I grew-up as well in the province and I can tell you we were brought-up to always "give respect" or "ask for permission" when going into the wilds or woods for fear of offending or carelessly passing thru their abodes without notice/permission.

As for my own experience, it didn't involve anything highly spectacular but it had to do with that "feeling" being discussed here, which is why I truly believe it was extraordinary. Again, I'm not here to convince anyone, but this thread seems to have been a good outpouring for these kinds of experiences.

I also don't want this post to come-off sounding "religious" which I certainly am not. I do not have a personal "religion" so to speak. (I am a metatheist or someone who wants to transcend the idea of a "deity". The American Indians knew this concept for a long time).

Also note that this happened to me only about 4 - 5 years ago, when I was of age as well (I was about 32 - 33 at the time).

I was living alone in a boarding house (it was actually just a partitioned room converted from a great hall). Early one morning, probably sometime before 6 AM, I was still in bed and half-awake already. Suddenly I had this feeling of a great big darkness that came over me, kind of like a giant tidal wave looming or a big tent coming over me, but it felt dark and heavy. And then I heard a "voice" or more like a whisper inside my thoughts, I would even probably say as if telepathic and it seemed to say with what I would describe with a sneering or leering tone; "Your God has abandoned you" then as if mocking me with "What are you going to do now?".

Obviously, my initial reaction to the whisper was naturally terror. Imagine if God (by whatever name your your belief calls him) did really abandon you? And then this "thing" comes along, mocking you of that fact? But almost quickly as the feeling of terror came, suddenly a deep sense of sadness/despair replaced it. If you were indeed separated from your "God", wouldn't that be the saddest thing indeed? Thus, I quickly had an insight into what the Abrahamanic religions of the entity called "Satan" or the devil must have felt like, to be so "separated" from all goodness. But it didn't stop there; after the rush of feelings of terror then, despair, all of a sudden my heart, limbs and body felt a rush. If felt like I was ready for big throwdown! I mean I was really tense, and I literally stood-up from my bad rushing for a fight! I even ran across the hall towards the courtyard as if chasing something and beat it black and blue, and I didn't care if it had horns, fangs and a tail! At the back of my head, I was pissed-off that this "thing" dared to taunt me or make me believe I was "disconnected" from God, that made me damn mad!

I threw open the doors to the courtyard with body tensed for a fight, but I didn't find anything naturally.

Well that's my story. Again, I don't want to overplay any "religious" angle here, because I don't want to sound "preachy" which is why I've shared this only now.

I believe your feelings, I have experienced several things similar.
Once upon a time I decided to practice reiki, pranic healing, chi kung, that sort of stuff.
The chain was tae kwondo (ITF), wich led to tai chi, wich lead to chi kung, wich lead to reiki and other energy management disciplines.

I have, as I stated above, several stories.

A very creepy one:

I decided it was time to test my energy healing and cleansing habilities, so I recruited to old guys, both martial artist and weight lifter from my gym.
The were open to try, because both practised tai chi besides they regular martial arts. One was a tkd guy, the other judo.

So we went to the top floor of the gym, wich was empty, and I started cleansing and recharging them.
They said they could saw a light crown on the top of my head. Ok, it could be, the top chakra, wathever.

So I went home.
The next day, I was GREY.
I mean, GREY as the paviment, GREY.
I felt very very ill. Like a flu mixed with stomach ache and an opression on my chest. Also, very upset. Like if someone was insulting me and wishing me ill...

So I called a friend of mine who was more advanced in reiki, and he contacted a few reiki experts.
They "saw" me. From distance.
And they said (via my friend) that I was possesed by two dark entities. They didnt knew if I've gotten the entities from the two old guys, or they were attracted by "my light", but the case was that I had two dark entities attached to me, sucking my energy.

I WAS TERRIFIED. BECAUSE I FELT THE DRAINING.
It was truly awful.

I'm a roman catholic.
I went inside my house (I was talking with my friend using a cellphone, so I was at my backyard because inside my house I have poor signal) and I touched to statues I have in my house, one of Jesus the Good Sheperd, and other of the Virgin Mary.
I said a prayer.
I SWEAR I FELT LIKE AN ELECTRICITY JOLT, and felt inmediately better.
So I went to church. I confessed and went to mass. Felt clean.

Latter, I learned you have to pray and ask for protection before doing any reiki or other similar discipline.

True story.
I have more.

Speaking of creepy, in 2004, I found myself standing on the side of the highway watching my car burn up. The fire department was there and had it under control. The car's engine started. I had the key in my pocket. It sounded perfectly normal as it ran for about 2 minutes. Then it quit. Spooky....

Well, this thread delivered. Its 11 pm and I'm exhausted, but I see no possible way that I'm going to be able to sleep for at least an hour.

Yeah, I was about to go to bed, but I always check bladeforums before I do, and I saw this thread, so I read all of it. Now I feel like everything is out to get me. That's all. Stupid of me to do. But I'm sure it'll be funny tomorrow.

I believe we have similar life paths; I have done no other hobby/activity in my life except for martial arts since I was 10 years old. The thing is I never did it for the sake of sport/competition which is why I was led to the "spiritual" and even "healing" aspects of these arts if you want to call them that. It's true what they say; at the advanced stages, it's not about beating-up or giving hurt to people any more, quite the opposite in fact.

I was also fortunate enough to have a pleasant Tai Chi Chuan teacher who studied Jewish Merkava, Qigong and pranic healing, as well as being a physical healer (Chinese acupressure and deep tissue massage).

As you've probably discovered, praying elevates you to a higher/positive frequency which creates a "shielding" force for your body do the deter the lower bad vibes away. Those negative entities which attached are probably of a stronger variety since they attracted to the light because they are exactly separated from it. The lower kinds are deterred from the light, like throwing acid to them.

It's simply all about energy, as the universe permeates with it. Just like a magnet as well, there are "negative" as well as "positive" polarities. There are dimensions out there and forces within those dimensions though that we don't understand and Physics can confirm this in the sphere of science. He cautioned me as well about delving into these things without being prepared and being led properly by a good teacher (similar also to what Mr. Licauco says).

(I'll PM you later if you don't mind).

I love where this has gone after a year!
Anyone have any weird occurance for Bigfoot types of things?? I know that i always feel im being watched in the wild.

Another one.

I was learning chi kung, reading books. The way of energy, by Lam Chen or something like that. Also, Mantak Chia. One of the excercises prsent in both autors it's to exchange energy with a tree.
But you don't do it before preparing yourself, you need to enter in a special mind frame and also to circulate the energy between you and the tree, and also circulate and store the energy in your tan tien aka two inches below your belly button :D

One day I went with my family to a forest, and I was kinda bored, so I approuched to the nearest tree, and open right there to it's energy.
I felt like my chest exploded.
I staggered back, and called my wife. I felt heat, lack of breath...imagine getting a devastating and also outraging news.
I felt very angry, and my face was red flush.

We had to leave. It was something like 4 pm, I felt asleep in the car, got down at home, and continued sleeping to the next day.

As you see, learning by yourself is quite dangerous.
A tree is like a giant energy batery, and I went and put my (mental) hand inside that giant batery.

Later one, I tried doing it right, and it all went well, it was more than well, it was beautiful.

I have similar histories of mistakes because everything I learn by myself :p
