Have you Guys checked the Camillus website lately???

Phil,

Do you still keep in touch with Vinny?

I'm just trying to get some insight, apparently there must be two versions about where these knives are being made and what steel they are being made from. I though Vinny would have given me the correct information since he is handling the knife, but you sound like you may have an insight on the knife. Please note; I am not being a wise guy with you and I mean no disrespect, I am only trying to get the story from your prospective.

No problems Tom!
With all the patent issues on those knives, it is franky wishful thinking on Vinny's part.
Time will tell, but IMHO Spain is never to be an option!

The Heat and 18-XRAY Automatic are Darrel Ralph designs, it is my assumption the Darrel has the patent on the knives. I know Vinny has been working very closely with Darrel Ralph and Blackie Collins on the new knife production for Vinny's new company.

Do you feel the Camillus Cutlery may have a hold on the patent? I heard they were trying to hold onto the Becker Knife Line rights and recently had it slip through their hands. I also heard that KABAR will be picking up the Becker line when the dust settles. This is a little disappointing to me because I am not set up with KABAR (yet). I also know that KABAR will turn out a top notch product.

FYI: just about the time the Becker's go back into production there will be a knock off Becker knife coming out. I heard this will all take place late next year.

I would not be at all surprised to see copies and knockoffs of all of the fixed blades formerly produced by Camillus. Even knives with design patents (fewer than you might think) will be reproduced offshore. "Patents? We don't care about no stinkin' patents!" Look at the plethora of copies and renditions of knives designed and formerly made by Imperial Schrade. Knockoffs began appearing less than six months after the bankruptcy. And I am not talking about the products which importer/wholesaler Stewart Taylor had made for him in China. Or designs licensed by him to other companies such as United. Just how many of the knife designers will regain full control of their designs is yet to be seen. Even items with design patents... design patents are very easy to get around if a maker or importer wishes to. And some, particularly from the Pacific Rim have a "stop me if you can" attitude.

Just my own opinion. Myself, I wish all of the designers could regain full control and ownership of their designs and patents. But if frogs had wings...
