Have you seen the new manix 2 lightweight!?!

Are you (expletive) kidding me!? If this thing can cost just over $100 with arguably the highest end steel available that means either we are being severely overcharged for the normal Manix LW, or Spyderco decided to make a production knife with next to no profit margin.

I'm willing to wager that spyderco has sold enough of the light weights to pay off the FRN mold costs. And I'm expecting these will be flying off the shelf when they release. So I bet Spyderco will be banking on volume sold.

Not a bad price for S110V but I'm no longer interested in FRN. I know they went that direction to cut costs but I would have paid a bit more for G-10 or a lot more for CF.

I doubt it. Many people actually do like FRN and they didnt do it to save on cost. Theres like six G10 Manix variants with super steels already and since it appears that Spyderco is going to make this steel more available, it wouldn surprise me if a G10 Manix version will come also. A CF Native5 in S110v is slated to come out very soon. Its not about cost but more about
broadening their FRN line. The main complaint of the original LWT was the 'lesser' steel. BTW, creating FRN molds run in the tens of thousands to start a model.

Though not a fancy material, FRN works. It's thin, light, strong. This one is 2.9 ounces and the LWT Manix profile is one of the thinnest Ive come across to date. Just like polymer handguns Ive come to appreciate FRN for its benefits.

The scales are pinned, so its a no go for me. I clean and lube all of my knives by disassembling them. So not being able to takes if off the list. Great price for a 110 knife though.

I would love to try some S110V goodness but knife being pinned turns me off.....Ill have to see on this one its still a steal at that price

Your loss. The pivot is torx and just like the Calys, you can take the blade off for cleaning. In a nutshell, you can clean the knife 100% and adjust the pivot. What else, it isnt a framelock?

I managed to snag one from BladeHQ they had a small batch in before they were available for preorder. I'll gladly post some pics for you guys when I get it.

I'd prefer colors and ffg options for the normal manix 2.

I had the original translucent blue manix with CTS-BD1. It was constructed well and a fine knife but the plastic handles ended up showing some wear (changing color) from pressure when I was working on my side on a concrete floor. Before it could break I passed the knife along to a friend who does not work a physical job and he loves it, never had any issues. But for me, plastic is now out.

I'm getting one. FRN works, which is most of what I care about, and I don't mind pins as long as the pivot is adjustable.

For that price I'd rather have the G10 version (even though it's heavy). But maybe the long term street price will be closer to the 1st gen LW price.

Have plenty of knives that aren't framelocks. And yes some are those are not Kershaw/ZT. Just don't like pinned scales. Nothing against Spyderco it's just not for me. Not my loss at all. I'll stick with the XL and be happy.

Cool. Just as long as you know that you can remove the blade if you so wish, clean the knife to your heart's content, and adjust the pivot any which way you like. Just to be clear.

The Manix LW is one of my favorite knives, even with the (underrated) BD1 steel. I love the light weight of the FRCP scales on the original LW so the new S110V with FRN will be equally light and I love the Midnight Blue color. This will easily be my new favorite knife.

Like BenLong1018 above, I snagged one of the few that BHQ actually had in stock. Anxious to get it in.

I don't have either any more, but if I remember correctly the Manix 2 has a much thicker blade, and if the pivot is the same on the LW version as it is on the standard, the blade will not be able to be removed due to it being pinned instead of screwed together.

A couple of things here:

IMHO, the blade is not that thick. Perhaps you meant wide? If that is the case, then yes. Like some of the other Spydies, this one has a leaf blade that I find is a great slicer.

The original LWs had pinned blades like the Natives, but Spyderco changed that and now the blade is held in by a torx screw instead of a pin. The scales are pinned.

Im sorry thought I was aloud to post how I felt about the knife....that was purpose of thread right so people would see the new Manix and post their feelings? That goes both ways as pros and cons! And no I have nothing against frame locks if that answers your question just a problem with the pins.

I'd imagine it's pinned because it has no liners. It has no liners to reduce weight.

If they'd used liners and screws, it would be heavier. It's a trade I'm willing to make. I have two on the way.

Yeah, 2.9 ounces in a 3.5 inch blade in a handle that is also strong as well as epic thin. Adding screws would make it thicker, same situation as the Calys, something they didn't want to compromise on. They want this knife to be thin and lightweight obviously.

Pivot is torx. You can adjust it, clean it, even totally take the blade out if you wanted. I don't see the problem here, at least not worth passing on this knife and overlooking its strongpoints because of it.

Overpriced? Where are you shopping? The Manix 2 LW is available here in Vancouver for $85CAN, and is arguably the biggest bargain out there. Overpriced? Not.........

I wish the regular manix 2 had this option..... I like the in hand feel better

While all the specifics arent perfect, im excited to play with 110V and see what the fuss is about. Pre-ordered.

Trying to sharpen the steel will make you curse your god(s) for allowing it to exist. It should hold the edge almost like ceramic that doesn't chip as easily, though.

No, I meant the captive pivot design like the Manix and PM have. If it is like this the blade won't be able to be removed, just adjusted. I would assume they would use a standard pivot (one screw) due to the knife not being able to be taken apart, but sometimes really dumb decisions can be made. Regardless, I will be buying one of these. I hate the steel, but I'm willing to give it another try, and at the price it wouldn't be the worst thing to find a set of screws to replace the pins.

I also meant the thickness of the blade stock. The regular Manix has a pretty thick blade with a deep hollow ground, old model that is. New models are flat ground.

I don't like knives that are pinned together and I don't like FRN handles..... so no thanks.
