Have you seen the Noss Video?

Sure you didn't. Go and troll else where my boy.

really? calling me a liar with absolutely no indication of such is a bit juvenile...

If you take the time to go look at YouTube, you'll see that this video was posted yesterday. I had no idea that it wasn't recent, or that it had ever been seen in this particular forum.

If i was trolling, i could come up with something much more trollific.

I called you a troll, not a liar. So you found this vid. and then you just came running here to post it....totally innocently of course.

Before anyone else responds any further...

ah, well then, i suppose by that definition you may be correct.

I was curious what those who are fans of CR knives would think. Perhaps they would have an idea of what was going on that i didn't, or perhaps i'd just get flamed... either way, i didn't mind.

After having read the old thread, i have a good idea of what they think

it's not like i came here and said "all crk knives are crap... look at this video that proves it"

i simply posted a video and asked for thoughts

Oh, I just noticed where this was posted!

Just as a general issue, those video's have been "missing" for a while.

I have seen them all when they were initially made, however long ago that was. I have never seen a thread about Noss's video's end well, no matter where they are posted (generally speaking).

I don't think it is unfair to post it here with a question "what do you think".

But I don't foresee any good outcome, or any real pleasant discussion.

I think the real message to be taken home from Noss' many vids is that shit happens and you should bring more than one knife. If you've been paying attention, there's been pictures posted of just about everything breaking including axes.

There was lots of talking was done when the vid was first put out, the talking was doen again a little while after that and proabbaly again at least once or twice between then and now. This thread is now just beating a dead walrus, the dead horse was a puddle long ago. Some noob excitedly coming here to post it again is never going to be greated with hand shakes, back slaps and bouquets of Sebenzas for their trouble......

I think Chris Reeve makes a superior fixed blade. However, there are better manufacturers of fixed blade knifes out there. For example the entire Busse family and no one here can argue with with that. Chris Reeve is the king of the folding knife, Jerry Busse owns the fixed blade market hands down. I for one would love to see Chris and Jerry get together and collaborate on one sick folder, could you imagine a Sebenza or Umnumzaan with an INFI blade?......No I am not a troll. I love Chris Reeve, He's the Shizzznit.

Damn! Umnum with INFI! Give it! Any freaken day of the year! That would be awesome!

Many forget that the specific knife was designed with intended use by Bill Harsey. Bill Harsey, probably one of the most renowned makers ever. He discusses the design etc on the CRK DVD in detail and its history and the evaluation process thereof.

From everything I have ever read, the knife has performed well for its design purpose. Let's be honest. We have 2 reviews linked in this thread where the knife has been used within its design parameters and it has functioned well. One video with a hammer that shows the knife breaking. That's 2 for 1 so far.

I have to be honest and say IMO an INFI folder would not be that great. The edge retention is really nothing worth shouting about in my experience. It works in fixed blades although I have had problems with one knife in particular, that being my BWM. I would much rather see a high alloy steel used in a folder like S90V or REX-121 than INFI. Thats just me though and of course peeps can want what they wants. :)

Haze I would have to agree that the demand for a high Vanadium alloy is in higher demand. I would like INFI or CPM-154/RWL-34 with a good cryo treatment giving it a HRC of around 62. My personal experience is that it gives the best balanced steel for the end user and it can take and hold a high polished edge or a toothy edge depending on what needs to be cut.

Also...Bob Loveless used RWL-34 and I think it would just be great having CRK use it. You have a steel a legendary knife maker used and a the grandmaster of the framelock. The design philosophy of a simple elegant tool that both makers seem to have in common.

But it is all personal preference :)

A hard blade is a brittle blade. If you want a blade you can stab sheet metal with and chop bricks, then a softer blade will prevail.

Ernest Emerson was asked about his softer heat treat in an interview. His answer was that a dull knife is still a knife, but a broken knife is... A broken knife.

I doubt the Green Beret was ever designed for insane tasks such as the Busse was.

Ultimately, blade hardness and grind will determine the optimal use of a knife. You don't use a scalpel to fell a tree, nor would an axe make a good tool for surgery.

When people say a blade is "better" it's only on a particular task. No such thing as a knife that slices well and pries open car doors. It's all a compromise...

Not to be any more controversial than i have already been, but i'd lay a big chunk of money that a Busse (say the team gemini) would be quite capable of extensive prying tasks, and i know for a fact that it's a high quality slicer

I was never saying that a Green Beret isn't a good knife. I genuinely don't know enough about it to comment on that, and since many MANY people love it, i'm certain it's very good at some things

It does seem obvious that unless the knife depicted was a fluke, it's not a "hard use" knife in the way that a Busse of the same size and shape would be

I'm highly biased, and admit that. I know nothing about CRK fixed blades, and a good bit about Busse, ZT, Microtech, and Becker fixed blades having owned or used at least one of each... so of course, i am not the person to listen to when it comes to CRK fixed blades, but i do know that if 2 knives would both do the job i need equally well, and both knives cost roughly the same, i'm going to choose the one that has proven capable of taking the most abuse JUST IN CASE i need to abuse it.

Didn't CRK replace the knife Noss destroyed? (not trolling, just can't find his old website)

I seriously hope not... while that would say a lot (positive) about CRK as a company, it would be seriously unethical to intentionally destroy a knife then expect the manufacturer to replace it.

I am all for a man breaking his toys, but abusing a warranty in bad faith would rub me wrong.
