At this point I had a delay, the S7 wouldn't drill any more for the chainrings I am installing... long story short I got a better drill installed yesterday, drilled the holes and normalized the knife to reduce internal stresses in the metal before heat treat. It is actually in the kiln as I type this getting a 30 minute soak at 1725F, it will be hardened here very soon!

If I remember correctly it is 15" total with a 10" blade, the X is for the 10" blade length, I will be making a smaller version later. Thanks! :D

Looks like it will be one hell of a chopper!

Oh it will be for sure, the poon tip gives it tons of weight forward, it just wants to chop like crazy!

I just finished the hardening stage of heat treat and it ius looking good, decarb free and straight as an arrow!

Daniel, when you heat treat S-7 do you wrap some paper around it then the heat treat foil?
I don't know if it makes any difference, but my machine shop instructor said the paper (we used
paper towels) would burn up durning heat treat. The theory is the burning paper uses up the oxyengen
in the foil pouch giving a better heat treat.

So far everything has been coming out really clean but I want to try the paper trick. I bet they come out even cleaner.

I saw a Snody video where he was chopping up money for the packets, lol.

I am new to using the foil, talk about scary stuff! I thought it would be flimsy but it is like working with a giant razor blade, the welding gloves get busted out for that stuff! I plan on using more and more air hardening steels, I like everything about them.

Yeah......heat treat foil makes Reynolds wrap look like tissue paper. Be sure to crease and flatten the
edges of the really good. Can't have to good a seal.

Tough stuff! I have a roller to crease it and actually made a couple of practice bags as I wasn't sure if they were perfect. I have been triple folding them and pressing the crease with a hammer. So far so good but I'll try the paper next time.

Cry Havok, and let slip the Dogs of War!! Always wanted to use that line in a conversation, hee, hee. :p
