Havok!

:) he took your drawing and turned it into a real beast. Congratulations gooeytek - it's alive!

Looks amazing Daniel.

He certainly did, and way beyond my expectations. Next one up is different, yet kinda the same. The Havok V :)

It arrived on Tuesday, but wasn't able to pick it up from the PO until last night.

I chopped through some seasoned oak, and it bites really deep. As deep as my khukri, except I can twist the Havok out without worrying about bending the blade. I then sliced some paper and it was still effortless. I should have taken a short video or something, maybe tomorrow if the weather is nice.

That is one cool blade!

I'm telling you... :D the handle material glows in the dark as well! Stall mat over cryptonite so it is comfortable and looks good! I'd like to take credit bit I can't Gooeytek had some killer ideas for this one!

I wasn't able to get a video made, but I tried and just couldn't get the action and camera control right. I guess I need a tripod or something. I did however, split some more wood and the Havok did the job admirably. I came across a piece of oak that was so hard and dry that when cut cross-grain, the CS Magnum Khukri and wood-splitting axe that I had just bounced off it and couldn't even bite deep enough to notch it. The Havok chopped big chunks out of it, and it was there that I saw what a big difference the chisel-grind edge geometry made. It didn't bite and hold though, but clanked off the log and big wood chips were flying. The axe and khukri, nogo. I think I'll test edges with wood like this from now on.

A quick wipe and it still sliced paper effortlessly throughout the length of the edge. I was giggling inside :)

Didn't bother cleaning it up too much and took more pics since the sun was bright out.
I like this pic that shows how thick the steel is, and the shadow hints at the blade shape.

I also tweaked the sheath a bit with a heat gun. Draws in and out easier now after the pop.

I love this thing! So much so that I got a paid membership so I could post a pic as my signature :)

The khukri also slices paper and is convexed. It's very good for machete-type duties like clearing brush and de-limbing thinner branches, but there isn't as much weight behind it and since it's so thin, doesn't baton as well. The axe is also pretty sharp and convexed but it's very thick. There's also a lot less control. The chopper definitely makes better cuts than either one.

A very well thought-out grind (chisel) backed by a super tough steel (S7). I wonder how a hollow ground would be?
Does it have a 2ndary bevel?
Also does the harpoon tip serve as a wound expander?

With the ginunting-esque profile and the weight, i'm afraid nothing left but cold air swivels around the edge upon swinging.

it's a convexed chisel grind, which is great for sharpening on paper wheels. I'll just run it through the stropping wheel when it loses that razor edge and it'll be good to go. When I was hacking at that dried oak, I noticed that the horse-stall mat really absorbs a lot of shock and very little gets transmitted through to my hand. The stall mat is softer than the khukri's handle material, but the krypto's hardness balances it all out by keeping the grip substantial.

I have been sick and off the net the last couple of days and came back to see this, it really makes my week! :D :D :D

Thanks for posting up the awesome photos and review, the signature photo is just killer! The pic with the shadow is just too cool, really nice stuff!

The chisel grind makes fast work of chopping, I could imagine a Havok inspired chisel ground competition chopper really eating the 2x4's!

hmm, I should try out some 2x4's. The Havok is 15 1/4" overall length, and that 1/4" can be removed from the pommel to keep it within regulations. It qualifies in all the other dimensions :)

Hmmmm....

No wonder I thought it seemed like an appropriate design!

Cool avatar by the way, is that you in the Magnum?

Thanks! I'm sure a hollow grind would be nice as well. It could bind a little but a high grind and a swedge would help with that and there would be little friction behind the edge, it would especially excel on softer targets.

The tip would work as a wound expander but my thought behind it was weight at the tip, the weight forward design just wants to chop like crazy.
