Head up, West Coast! There may be incoming.

As much as I dislike big cities I still would not take kindly to seeing San Francisco and Los Angeles nuked by anyone except me.

Uncle Bill are you still thinking of making Reno a ocean front location?

So, does this mean North Korea was further along in their work towards nuclear capability than George Bush and his intellegence agencies first thought?

From what I read off the wire last night (take with a large grain of salt), N. Korea's nuke capability (that they could reach the US) has been known for a year or more. The rocket that the warhead is mounted on is untested... but that don't mean it won't work.

IMO... we do have our ducks lined up a bit backwards. Crazies that MIGHT have nukes before Crazies that DO have nukes

What scares me is N. Korea has isolated themselves from the world community so much that they don't give a rats a@@ about anyone but themselves. I don't think they'd pause too much before launching just to show the world they have the balls

Too bad the cruise missles didn't launch back in '94 to get rid of this problem. But then, that'd opened up a whole new can of worms I suppose.

Seems like it is almost time to dig in, stock up on Spam, ammo and dog food!

Now ALan is that: eat the spam, use the ammo for self defense and feed the dog food to the dog OR,

Eat spam first--then dog food--then use bullet on self when the first two run out?!  :D

Yes, Wrong, Japan is certainly at greater risk simply because it's closer and there is the old bad blood between Korea and Japan which has been carried over by the North.

It's a situation which merits watching but a situation which could have been avoided if Truman had only listeded to Doug MacArther who aptly commented on the Korean War, "This is the first time in the history of the world a war has been fought not to win." But, sadly, it was not the last.

In the reports I have read and heard over the media, this was known in 1998, two years before Bush took office. Clinton didn't want to do anything about it. He was too busy with other things, like exporting sensitive data and other personal things.

IIRC China was a big supporter of NKorea, during the Korean 'conflict' Korean War and probably still is today.

I say turn off the monetary aid ,the food aid, the energy aid and let God worry about they survive.

Interestingly enough, Clinton was set to launch an attack on the Pyongong (sp??) nuclear facility back in '94. The attack was cancelled when N. Korea signed the treaty agreement wherein they'd stop their nuke development and agree to monitoring in exchange for fuel oil and other aid.

One of the problems with media reports is, for the most part, they are limited to what information is "released" via official and unofficial channels. The gov't plays the media like a well tuned instrument when it suits the mission. We'll probably never know for sure when the info was originally obtained.

What is really important is that we KNOW they have the capability NOW. We KNOW they can hit our shores NOW.

Sadaam definitely needs taking care of... but the immediacy of their threat/capabilities compared with N. Korea are a bit questionable (to me).

At least the B-1s and B-52s are on alert for deployment to Guam :D

So many bullies who need a@@ whoopings... so little time.

BTW... Sarge, my prayers and best wishes go out to you, your troops and the rest of our men and women... I wish I could be going with you guys.

Didnt N Korea say that they would consider any embargo an act of war? Crazy messed up logic, but then I suppose one should never look for logic when dealing with the insane. Though I can understand why the admin is not so eager to start a hot war with em. With China as a friend, nukes/missiles tucked away, and an army thats just looking for a chance to start WWIII that makes dealing with Saddam look easy.

China is more worrisome than all the rest put together. Not today or tomorrow but sometime in the future. They have the advantage of numbers. They can lose 80 or 90 percent of their population and keep right on going and they have the advantage of having enough independent farmers to feed the people. The only other country that can compete in this category is India.

I think I'm safe...I live in the middle of nowhere! No one would waste a nuke on Victorville! :p

I guess I'll start digging...I already have the "Fallout Shelter" sign!

Ive always been worried about India and Pakistan. Two countries with nukes, currently fighting, vehemently opposed ideologically/spiritually/culturally, regimes riddled with corruption and hot tempers...wheehhh Now with Korea in the mess, who's to say a stray missile couldnt spark an exchange that wipes out South and East Asia.

The North Koreans aren't insane. Anyone care to come up with any "reason" logical, or otherwise, why N. Korea would want to nuke us or Japan, or anyone else for that matter? They are well aware that we would make their miserable little excuse for a country glow in the dark within 24-48 hours. This entire thread makes me wonder if it isn't some of us who are insane. Jeez, get a grip ;-).

"who's to say a stray missile couldnt spark an exchange that wipes out South and East Asia"

I'm glad "South" and "East" weren't put together to include "southeast" Asia. :D

This was going to be a long post but then I thought of how stupid I usually sound on a soap box and cut it off.

I'm still betting that N. Korea will be bought out. They are playing a pretty smart hand. While the town sheriff is busy with Iraq and terrorists, a little punk should run around making as much noise with his bat as he can. When the sheriff is finished there, he's a little tired, a little fed up, and all the townspeople are complaining to him whether he did a good job or not (remember Kuwait?). The idea of taking away the punk's bat and shutting him up by quietly shoving a few bucks in his pocket and buying him a beer looks better and better.

Of course if the punk is smart he'll then wait a while then make more noise at the right time to get more bucks. It's already happened before.

There's a lot to be said about having everybody think you are nuts. You get away with a lot more than everbody thinking you are smart. :D :D :p
