Which one would make the best outdoor choice? Some toughts.

Top to bottom:
Fällkniven A1
Glock Field Knife
Ka-Bar Heavy Bowie (short)
BK&T BK7

The Glock:
Cheap:D, high carbon steel:D, hardness 55-57:o.
More like a bayonet, a good throwing knife, not a good chopper, easy to sharpen. More a fighter than a work horse, though there is no abuse it wouldn`t take:thumbup:, fantastic simple sheath.

To be continued

A1 would be my choice. Probably the best thrower of the bunch too.:)

i would choose the bk7...i have two and both are some of the best cutters/ choppers i have owned....love them....cant wait until EB and KABAR get the new models out...

i have owned the glock field knife and i didnt like it really...but all in all i like the group

The A1:
Not so cheap:(, stainless but excellent steel:D, very good egde holding:thumbup:, comfortable handle, needs more effort to sharpen than the high carbon steels, not an excellent chopper but OK:o, yes, a good thrower, thick blade.

The Ka-bar:
Best chopper of the above mentioned (together with BK7):D, good slicer:thumbup:, hardness 55-57:o, good handle for large hands, works with gloves:), sheath is not the best:(, ugly:D, long false edge (not good for batoning technique:(

The BK7
high carbon steel, easy to sharpen, good edge holding, hardness 58:thumbup:, currently not available:thumbdn:, sheath:thumbdn:, good chopper and slicer:D, handle: with large hands or glove you might feel cramped:(

I'd have to say with the exception of the glock any of those would be great. the glock, in my opinion, is poo. just my .02 and yes i've had one.

The ka-bar is the best chopper of the bunch here and it slices like a dream! it is also the best for baton use. I love my Becker's though, the bk-7 is a great knife for many field chores it just isn't an effective chopper and the point is thin so i don't baton mine... now my bk&t bowie is an excellent chopper and with it's thick point it's also great for baton use. I also have the large version of the ka-bar and there is a noticeable difference over the short one while shaving wood (more leverage) but not all that much difference in chopping.

I own the BK-7 and it's a dandy blade, but it wouldn't be my first choice in the group you've pictured. Here's how I would choose.

This would be the order I'd put them in. I have an S1 and F1 and they are both great. Someday a A1 and WM1 will be added to the list. The A2 would really be sweet, but the price keeps it out of reach for now.:(

A1, ya sure, you betcha! Dem der Svedish knives cut yoost like my ex-vife's tongue :D

Anybody here know how wide the tang is on the handle of the Kabar bowie?
I haven't bought a big knife in about 7 years (lots of Moras/SAKs/multis etc though), but the Kabar is priced right and looks stout and utilitarian and therefore tempting.
Is the Bowies tang like the USMC knife or is it nearly the width of the kraton handle?

If you are not resistant to modding a good file and an afternoons labor could get rid of the Kabars false edge.
I'm not a big fan of false edges in general.
The last time i was messing around carving some wood i used my Buck 119. The edge held up great, the handle was comfortable enough but the false edge gave me a small blister on both my thumb and forefinger.
I was at it for quite a while and a lot of the time my grip was choked up near the tip putting a lot of pressure on the spine of the blade with my thumb and forefinger.
The blister thing never happens with my Moras.
I still like Bucks though, i've got a woodsman 102 on the way to me in the post.
:)

That kabar makes me want to just pick it up and feel the balance, it just looks right to me. I like how the edge is below the handle so knuckles are out of the way, too.
The to buy list lengthens.
