Deciding whether to go for one of the heavy choppers next week, or wait for the production light choppers, but I definitely want one of them.

The Light Chopper is not a small knife, but at 17 ounces it's easy to carry, beautifully balanced and serves two roles as a camp knife and machete/chopper. The design, balance and ergos are excellent and it hits well above its weight. It's a good durable steel with a HT optimized for edge retention in rough use. At $385 it's a good value and a very useful knife.

The Heavy Chopper is similar dimensionally, but at 23 ounces it's pretty heavy. While the additional weight gives it a slight edge in chopping power, it's not by much, and the additional weight will tired you out faster. It's a big fun knife, and it's probably going to be pretty rare, but it's not as practical. And at $500 Vs $385, the light chopper is the better value.

If you want a practical knife, wait for the Light Chopper, it's brilliant. But if you want a big indestructible 3V beast the Heavy Chopper is pretty cool.

They're both the same steel, same advanced heat treat.

Thanks, Nathan. I was already trending towards the light chopper, and you've confirmed much of my thinking. When you do get around to the production run for the light choppers, will you also offer a sheath?

Would you be willing to part with one them to a fellow Kryptonian Jedi Warrior?

Seriously, anybody who wants to send me money now can feel free to do so.

That would be awesome!

It won't result in a knife or anything, but I promise to buy the finest beer with it. :D

I'd like to buy one heavy duty 3V chopper. When will it be available and is there any deposit? Thanks.

I don't mean to speak for Nathan here, but just so you know, he offers blades for sale almost every Friday around noon right here on Bladeforums exclusively. Fort Henry Custom Knives has carried his knives in the past as well.

He doesn't take money up front.
He doesn't have a waiting list.
If you want one of his fine blades, you need to pay attention.
