Heavy Duty fixed blade

What would you all choose for a high end heavy duty fixed blade....a Randall or a Busse? Or are there others I don't know about?

I have an Randall # 14 on order and should have it in about.... ohhh.... 2.5 years. Look forward to that day! Anyway, I know this isn't high end but I have a Dozier designed KaBar. Great knife. 1095 steel, drop point, and has help up to alot of HARD use.

If you can afford a Busse and are willing to pay the money then get one. If you want to get excellent performance at a lower price go with Ranger or Swamp Rat.

My Camp Tramp is the toughest knife I own. That said, I haven't really found the limits of most of my knives yet. I guess I feel like the Tramp is great for peace of mind, but I am not sure why I need a knife that tough. Maybe I will eat my words one of these days when I come across a situation that requires such toughness!

What will you need the knife for?

RMK wrote the book on fixed blade design IMO - they are tremendously efficient knives, and their 01 steel is first rate for ease of sharpening, edge retention, and ductility.

Busse makes the most rugged fixed blades you can buy, and it's tough to find fault with most of Jerry's designs. The factory Busse edge is a little thicker than the Randall, but that can be changed. INFI is more resistant to corrosion than 01, but I think it's harder to sharpen.

I don't care for Strider fixed blade designs, and prefer CRK in S30V. I prefer RMK and Busse to any other "production" FB, and I'd put Strider, CRK, Fehrman, Ranger, SRKW and probably Mad Dog in a solid second tier.

If I could only have two large fixed blades, it would be the RMK Model 14 in 01 and a Steel Heart. Choosing only one or the other would be impossible.

Striders are awesome. You could get a Busse, which would be awesome. A Bob Dozier fixed blade..... There are many to choose from. OOOOOh, there is Fehrman too!! If it were me, I would get a Busse or a Fehrman!!

What about a Manix? Those seem to be pretty heavy duty to me.
