Recommendation? Heavy duty pocket knife for everyday use. Which one of the two options?

Neither is us designed or manufactured.

Maybe not, but it is easy to see where they got inspiration from.

Bigger better faster!

Gonna make ur eyes bleed, but will never ever snap!

Just overbuilt crap in my eyes, but I know some people like stuff like this. But for the life of me I cannot understand why.

I would never buy the meskwaki at any price because the recurve is a nuisance to sharpen, and I do not see any redeeming features.

BTW, I used my Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter as a pry bar today, because I could not get a normal pry bar into the very tight space between the two things I was trying to pry apart. Worked fine, no problems.
You are quite right. I hadn't thought of that. You've been very helpful.

How is the Adamas not in the same category?

The blade is nearly 3/16” thick and the handle’s nearly an inch thick. It’s like holding a brick with a blade sticking out. Have you ever handled one?

It’s every bit as heavy duty, and you can carry it in your pocket and actually cut things with it. I did carry mine every day until I found something that worked better for me, and that’s what you’re looking for, correct?

Adamas is an excellent choice

Yes I have used it before. Adamas blade 3.556mm thick. Fox is 5mm, hermod folder is 6mm. Fox size is already too big. Hermod handle A huge piece of titanium. Also, if you think about the locking mechanisms, they are not in the same category. I am looking for overbuilt knives. You're right about everything you said about Adamas. Practical, powerful, can really cut things. But if we turned it into a stress test, it wouldn't be able to compete with these two knives. That's what I was trying to say. I'm sorry if I'm misunderstood. English is not my native language.
Since you’ve used one before, how was it lacking? Just curious. I’ve got a buddy who’s a pretty wild dude and he tried to break one. He did eventually break the lock chopping something crazy stupid, but that was after he had literally chopped down huge trees with it, threw it to stick into trees all the time, cut drywall with it, etc. and abused the hell out of it in general for several years.

To survive that level of destructive abuse is staggering. The Adamas is every bit as strong as the knives you’re looking at, built well of quality materials, is MUCH cheaper, and is a practical solution to what you seem to be looking for.

There seems to be a trend in this thread. Seems like people are telling you what you’re looking into are a waste of money, but what do I know.

It’s your money, blow it on whatever you want. Also, post pics or I’m not buying that you’ve had Adamases and Medfords coming out your ears…….

It didn't have any lackings. Like I said, I just like the kind of different knives I mentioned. You are right, there is such a trend here. You're also right about it being a waste of money. For some, any pocket knife may seem like that. You can always do the same with less. You are also free to believe what you want. I don't have to convince you of anything just because I think differently from you about adamas. I respect whatever you think. Thank you for taking your precious time to reply to me.

Hi there. This is my first post. So please understand if I'm doing something wrong. I need a recommendation for a (overbuilt) pocket knife that is suitable for heavy use and everyday carrying. I have learnt a lot from here. That's why I wanted to ask you. Thanks to everyone for taking the time.I 'm stuck between two models. Which one should I choose? If you have better options than these, I'd like to know about them. Fox (fkmd) meskwaki or midgards Messer hermod

I'm not familiar with the brands you mentioned.
But I've had a little Ganzo for years.
My favorite model is the Ganzo G704, use and abuse without fear, I had to open a 200 liter drum, I only sharpened it again after use. I've even done batoning with it and it's just amazing.

There is no rational reason. I love big knives. I love weird knives. I like to carry them. My collection is full of knives of this type.

Ah! Then this makes a whole lot more sense! I assumed this was going to be your first pocket knife. Carry on!

Great video. The Sr1 is an absolutely incredible knife. I would rather watch espada or rajah 2 instead of sr1.

There will be a trade off which is why I asked. The shorter thicker knives you can do some inappropriate prying or digging or something. And the sr1 would be great.

If you were more inclined to chop inappropriately then things like the rajah would do better.

Now the xl folders are still really tough knives. The locks are all bullet proof and would work on par with those super expensive tanks. Cold steel just has that function solved.

The raja destruction test.

I think it is a victim of it's own design in that you can put so much force through the blade. It puts more stress on the blade.

The sr1 lite

Thank you for the suggestion. I had a ganzo g720 pocket knife before selling it. I bought it because it looks like Lionsteel, but it was a really useful knife. Ganzo makes very cheap and nice knives. I think 440c is a cheap but not bad steel.

I don't know anything about the quality of the two knives you are interested in. I have a Cold Steel 4Max Scout though. I can't imagine a tougher, more heavy duty folding knife than it. My usual response when asked about suggestions is to buy both. At the prices of these, that's not feasible. Good luck in your search. Let us know what you decide.

I understand what you mean. I agree, it's really a victim of design. If Joe X wants to break it, he does. The Sr1 is definitely a beast at that price point. Everyone should definitely buy a sr1 lite.
