Hi guys. I'm new to Spyderco and am looking for a heavy duty use folder with a blade of about 3" long (due to legal considerations - max allowable is 3 1/2" but I like a little shorter as an additional safety factor). I don't want a liner lock. I prefer frame locks and lock backs (or another type lock which you may suggest that would be as strong). - - I started searching on the Spyderco website but there are tons of models & I thought it would be best for me to get input from guys who know the knives first. I prefer current and/or easily obtainable models so it won't take too long to get one. Thanks in advance for your suggetions. All the best, - - -

Mini-Manix, Mini-Manix, Mini-Manix!!! Look no further, and buy one while supplies last!
Seriously, one of the sturdiest, sharpest knives I've EVER run across, and looks more utility than "tactical", while still looking good.
Like my brother said when I got him one, "It's everything I was looking for in a knife but didn't know I was looking for."
Buy one!(or two;))

Thanks stabman - - I came across a thread that mentioned a 'Manix' but the blade was too long (though I liked the design). I will look for a Mini-Manix - - guess its discontiinued ? Thanks again, - -

No problem. The Mini-Manix IS discontinued, but still widely available at the present time. Best to act soon though, as it seems to be a popular purchase right now.

para military.

just got one, i am very impressed with the compression lock. and i had reservations before its arrival.

i am convinced of its strength and simplicity.

If you could bring yourself to try a liner lock again, check out the Captain. The blade's only 1/8" shorter than the Para Mili's, handle's 5/8" shorter, has a 4-way pocket clip, & full SS liners. While it seems wide, at its widest, I believe it's about 1/8" wider than the Para Mili. The blade's definitely heavy duty.

If you have the chance to pick up a Lil'T, do it. Heaviest duty folder in the entire Spyderco lineup. The Manix comes real close, but I would actually give the Lil'T the nod for brute strength. Bladelength is a hair over 3" (something like 3 1/16 or so).

Yeah, Mini Manix seems like just what you're looking for. Just above 3 inches of blade, solid lockback function and the most heavy duty Spyderco folder you'll find.

I concur!!!!!

Thanks everyone for all your great suggestions. - -
My folder for carry in other parts of the state without the blade length restrictions is a large Sebenza framelock. - - I wanted something shorter length for those times when blade length is an issue. I definitely wanted to spend a lot less money, but still get something extremely stout & heavy duty. I decided to pull the trigger on a Mini Manix and look forward to its arrival. :D

P.S. - Any ideas on why they discontinued the Manix line ? Seems like a terrific folder to me. Maybe its considered too heavy by a lot of guys ? I think its about the same as the Sebenza.

great choice Pointshoot777..... I think you chose wisely ;)
decreased sales is usually the cause for discontinuation (as is the need for "room" to bring out new models)

The legal limit here in Arkansas is 3.5" and I carry either a Spyderco Paramilitary, Benchmade Griptilian, or an Emerson CQC-7B. Those are your best choices IMO.

delica does it all unless you want a folder that chops, which none should be used for anyway.

the d'allara drop point is beefy, though. i'd choose vg10 over s30v for hard use with all other aspect remaining equal.
