hi im looking for a heavy use folder $100 max. i really like striders so something that is collaborated by strider or has a strider look to it is good. any suggestions?

Look at the buck strider models, like the 889. They look cool, are pretty well built, but the locks are not very reliable. You can do much better for the price.

Maybe something in a Benchmade Axis Lock. A Griptilian or some of the Benchmade Snody H&K axis folders.

I just bought a Benchmade Griptillian 551 last week.

So far its been good. I use my kives VERY hard, we'll see how it holds up long term

I second the 551 or a JYD II, Just got a JYD II for x,mas, a beast. But i EDC'd a 551 for about 2 1/2 years, using it everyday. Stopped using it a few months ago but Still has zero blade play, and still looks great.

I can't think of one more "heavy duty" than the BM610 Rukus, although it's HUGE. If you have a Sportsman's Warehouse in your area, they're on clearance sale for $100 + $25 ((( :D )))

Don't over look the CS Recon1 folders. A ton of folder for the dough spent. My son uses one daily and has for quite some time. I mean really uses it for cutting cable, sheet rock, wire in general etc. etc. Has held up excellant. keepem sharp and good luck

ive been looking at the buck 889 black and i love everything about it except that ive heard mixed things about the liner lock

If your not gonna use the 889 to stab stuff, or for chopping, it would be fine... It would be fine if used just for cutting purposes. Otherwise go for the good stuff.

You can pick up a Benchmade 710D2 for ~about~ $100.00

That's what I'd get, now that the Spyderco Manix is out of production.
If you can find a Manix, even for a bit more than $100.00, IMO that's what you should buy

The Spyderco Chinook 3 is similar to the Manix, but I think the blade on the BM710 is suited to a wider variety of uses.

well ive looked it over and i think im going to go for the buck/strider 889bk. i liek the overall design and i think the lock will hold up just fine and if it doesn't i can always send it to buck or mick at strider. also this review says good things about it.

You're really not telling us what you want. What blade length, what kind of cutting jobs you'll be doing, etc.?

Spyderco's Native, Kershaw's Random Leek, Cold Steel's Recon 1, Voyager (4-, 5-, or 6-inch blades)--they're all sorts of good knives with varying qualities.

The most heavy duty folder own is the large Carbon V Cold Steel Twist Master, I've cut down 4" trees for sheter and used a baton to split wood for a fire, I've always been happy with mine and they can still be found on ebay for under $50.

Thanks in advance for not flamin' me for my choice.:)

I'd stretch the cost a bit and go for either a Benchmade Ritter grip or a Benchmade H&K Snody. Two of the best 100+/- folders out there.
