Heavy use folder?

The Benchmade Presidio looks like a heavy duty knife. Online they could be found for around $140 or so.

If you are going to be using it to pry and cut metal, you might as well buy something cheap so that you can easily replace it. Blades with good edge retension do not typically react well to prying and cutting metal.

A workable alternative might be to carry a cold chisel along with your knife.

sorry guys i guess i kinda wrote this wrong i meant something that will be strong enough to take that kind of abuse not everyday but as a last ditch measure

Don't over look the CS Recon1 folders. A ton of folder for the dough spent. My son uses one daily and has for quite some time. I mean really uses it for cutting cable, sheet rock, wire in general etc. etc. Has held up excellant. keepem sharp and good luck

Another vote for the CS Recon1 folders...very robust.

Whoops, missed the purchase. Advice no longer needed.

As an aside to future readers, please note the manufacturer of a licensed copy is the sole warranter, not the original designer. Buck, Benchmade, Spyderco, CRKT, and the others will fix their stuff. Please don't send your blades back to Strider, Tom Mayo, Greg Lightfoot, Rick Hinderer, et al if they didn't make it. It's just a licensed copy - not the real thing . . .

I know you said the Spyderco's never did much to spark your interest, but
as several have mentioned, the Manix is one heck of a folder and if you've
not handled one, it may be worth your time to do so. I had one a while back
missed it and just got this one in tonight actually, a late Christmas present to myself :)

The grip is very very solid on this knife

Blade is S30V and of course very sharp, also flat ground all the way up to the spine
so no shoulders on the blade to bind up. Also, a big pet peeve of mine, there is no
notch before the actual edge begins, they ground the blades bevels right up to the
base as tight as can be, other knives with the notch can catch on material when you
go to cut stuff like heavy sheets of plastic or canvas, anything that can fall into a notch...will !
So I prefer my knives to NOT have that,

the blade itself is very useful for lots of applications, and thick enough you could do
some prying without too much worry, but, you'd want to really pry with something
that isn't sharp, as prying is usually not a sharp event...

Here's a shot of the blade;

and the lock, it's a mid lock, quite solid as you can see from the well that the lock bar
goes into, when it locks up, it makes a reassuring thunk, no blade play.
I like integral locks sometimes, but, for me, when you grip some of them as you grip
tighter the lock bar can pull in more, which caused me to 'blink' as I wondered what was
happening to my knife, you don't need a pause or question like that in a tough situation.

the blade is about 3 3/4" long and just under 3/16" thick at the tang
Also the hole in the blade, one thing I like about that is, there isn't a thumb stud to
get in the way when sharpening, just isn't there, also thumbstuds I've had catch on
my pants pockets at the wrong time, on my sebenza it started to open the knife
when I didn't know it was, almost got cut several times, not fun.

the handle is just over 5" long, so you have a solid bit of grippy G10 scales to hold onto.

So, there's my take on a not TOO expensive but a Heavy use folder
My best to you!
