hi all. I'm new here and I need your help -

I'v been looking for some time now for a folder with certain parameters and I'm starting to wonder if there's even a knife like I'm looking for. so I turn to the pros for help :)

I'm looking for about 3.5" to 4" of cutting edge folder, clean edge, no hollow-grind. around 100$, for general light use...

thank you

Yes.

But without you narrowing things down a lot, we can't help.

What do you want to do with it, what do you want to spend, and what kind of lock do you prefer.

That could get us started.

Try the Italian made viper "start" it has a 4" D2 blade and is a lock back design. Comes with Linen Micarta handle scales very well made less than $150.00

I'm looking for a 4" to 4.5" blade length folder, clean edge, no hollow point\grind. steel needs to be good, toughness is more important then other steel properties. is there such a knife in existance?

thank you
What the smegging hell is a hollow point?

Also if toughness is a criterium as well as the size....probably best to get a cold steel.

AUS8a doesn't have the highest edge retention in the league but it makes up for it in toughness. Their blades are BIG (4,5 inches is a big folding knife) and most of them are priced in such a way that you wouldn't feel bad about beating on them.

If you want a full flat grind try the Spyderco resilience. Big blade of 8cr13mov good price liner lock.

Contact Alan Davis. A great maker and very affordable also check out kieth Willis another great maker with great prices. Why buy productions when you can buy customs that are one of a kind.

price range can go up to 170$-180$.

I want it for general use outdoors - cooking, fishing, fish scaling & gutting. hunting too. what kind of a lock - didn't think about that actually. what I have now is a 3.3" blade with a Liner Lock. but I'm not really set on any one type of lock.

stabman - that knife looks good, but from the picture I couldn't quite make what model is hollowpoint and what's regular grind. any idea?

thanks again

A hollow point is a type of bullet. A hollow grind is a blade shape how it is ground down to the bevel. If you are going to need a all purpose knife hollow grind would be a good choice. But if you are going to use it to clean fish a FFG might be the way to go.

I just skipped ahead to the hollow grind part.:D

Which means the Voyager may be out...it's tough, but is a hollow grind if I recall correctly.

Brother stab, the tanto is hollow grind but the clip and vaquero are flat.

I love my Large Voyager and think it would be a good pick. It holds the edge well if properly sharpened and touched up at least once per week. Ergos and durability are way up there and it is thinner behind the edge than most big, tough folders. Handle is designed for work much more so than most of the popular, thin flippers that cost 3-10x the price.

well, as it seems the large Voyager series is no more, and on eBay there's only one seller to carry them and he won't ship my way.
what about hold-out, ti-lite and pocket bushman?

seems like ti-lite is mostly for penetration\stabbing, when I'm looking for more cutting action, but I'm not sure

Yes it is.
The OLD series is gone. The NEW series is in current production, with stronger locks.
Ebay is a terrible place to buy anyway. Just check pretty much any online knife shop, and you'll find what you're looking for.:)
