One of my first serious knives was a BM 710sbk. It saw good use for years, as it was my only EDC piece. Then one day I discovered the KAI forum, began hanging out there, and soon fell addicted to ZT's. A few later, with a DPx and Spyderco thrown in the mix, here I am. Now that the KAI forum has closed, so has my keen interest for all things KAI.

Flash foreword a bit..
I recently learned of Benchmade's Lifesharp blade replacement program and decided to give it a try. Well a week and a half later, plus $25 and I'm one happy camper. They replaced my worn black, serrated blade with a fresh plain edge, satin model. They also replaced the clip with a silver split arrow as requested, plus springs, washers and a tune.

All I can say is wow! This is my new favorite EDC all over again. My ZT's and their friends are just going to have to be lonely for a while..

Congrats. You've discovered one of the best benefits in owning a Benchmade; their customer service is terrific. Many of us have lost the skill to sharpen and tune a knife. For not many dollars and only a short waiting period typically, what comes back to us is usually not only sharp - but the addition of new screws, washers, clip, springs, sometimes even the scales, can put a well-used knife right back in our pocket. Enjoy your friendship with that refurbished 710sbk! :)

The 710 is what got me to like Benchmade. You just don't see it that often, instead lots of grips and mini-grips. I kept thinking there has to be a Benchmade without that chunky, hollow sounding handle on the grip line. Finally found it in the 710. I had Benchmade install barrel spacers in mine so it's a flow through handle now. I'm hooked on the 710 now.

710 has to be my favorite edc knife. Nice and big. Hard wearing steel. Very comfortable for extended cutting. And the axis lock for convenience and strength.

It's been around a long time. If I remember, it was the first one to use the Axis lock. I wonder how many they still sell, and what makes it such a timeless piece? I wonder if it will be one of those that remains forever?

That said, it is a very big knife, that carries much smaller. A really awesome knife for sure.

Awesome.

just broke a old fecus bm fixed, dropped it and it snapped.

Sent it to bm they gave me a $120 credit for any thing, well seeing as how i needed a 710 it came this week satin pe and d2 steel.

now to hook up with keyman to rescale it in red with drilled holes in the scales.

Because who doesn't like a pic..

Yes Sir and thank you very much :D
I really like the look on those two.
The blue twill, polished liners and satin hardware really look awesome with the M390 blades.
I took both of these, and the better half, out to dinner last night.
Love 'em.

After reading this thread , I'm going to order myself a brand new 710. I've never owned one but I have always been interested. That large blade practically disappears when in the close position. That's awesome.

I would prefer M390 or S30V. But D2 is a good steel too.

You will not regret it. As for the size, I always hear how big it is, but you just never really notice. It's very well balanced and the size is there when you need it, and not in the way when you don't.

It shall be mine. Looks like a timeless design and they appear to still be selling very well.

Couldn't agree more!

For the blade size it really carries small. It's slim profile and lightweight make it unique among blades of that size. And there's no sacrifice in strength either. Nice thick liners and of course the AXIS lock. A classic from day one that more then holds it's own today!

You have a way with words. I'm sold.

Totally agree! Well said guys!
it is a great knife. excellent for pocket carry, or BM has these great sheaths that go horizontal or vertical on the belt.. really like the blade / handle ratio...
also, the slight recurve really cuts well!
after i got my first one, liked it so much that went back got another 710D2, and a 710 BK D2 (plain edge)...which are no longer on BM's website...

I've yet to own a 710. It's been on my list for so long now. The only thing holding me back is I fear it might be a tad too big.
Anyone got a pic of it next to a Para II?
