Hello!!!

Ndog, what is the handle on that Darb now? looks like something wrapped?

JW, Oh, I know the micarta really is a great handle material. And like I said, I am starting to get to be ok with it now that I have seen some of the more natural colors. For just plain useability, I think it is probably one of the best options under most situations. But well heck it is sort of like saying that a Katana made from Swedish Powder Steel is awesome. Yeah It is probably the best current technology steel, but it really isn't what I want my Katana made from I want the old fashion iron sand folded over and over. Same for me and knives. I am an old fashioned kinda gal, give me leather sheaths or gun holsters instead of Kydex and wood/horn handles on my knives and I am a happy (even if foolishly so) gal. Not that I don't know that the other options provide some real tangible benefits. Just think they lose a bit in the style/feel department.

Thats is one Foxie Foxy! and grandpa watching over her:cool:

JW: Thats what i first thought about that handle then i tried to do a Katana wrap a few times and its not as easy as it looks under skilled hands. It does need a wrap because it feels like slamming a steel fence post against and anvil right now.
Shav: Its nothing more than a welded pipe right now. Really make you appreciate the HI rat tails shock absorbing properties.

Those hollow handles are designed to be plugged up if you aren't running it on a pole set up. Just jam a stick in there and break it off flush, should help with a lot of the vibration.

Grandpa watches over everything always. He's a true gem that one. I'm still tickled with the little Chakma shaped like a khukri too, little things like that just excite me, can't help myself. It's wicked cool.
If I knew my way around metal I'd make me a shiny new one with a matching karda, maybe just a schosh bigger so I could carry them around and play with them.
I don't want to ruin the magic of the real one, just keep it clean and oiled up and much loved.
To that fella down south of me, you know who you are, thank you again.

Ndog-if you do a stripped 550 underwrap, (you can do contrasting colors) and then wrap over the top it looks Japanese, feels Japanese, and isn't impossible to do-actually pretty easy.image.jpg
I can't describe it but it's really easy-just a half twist on a side, pull it tight, half twist on the other side, and so on. If that doesn't make sense I could try to do a video. Sorry, not great at describing processes...

That second picture sure is beautiful Bawanna. And I have ever seen that style chakma, that is one of the cutest/coolest things I have ever seen.

So the other side looks the same right?(oh yes you said that). You pulled the inner strands out to flatten it as well (stripped 550?)? Heres my first succesfull wrap on a "billy club" I made it up but looks kinda cool. Its just repeated clove hitch? You have to ignore the Katana (if thats possible).

Ignore the Katana? Yeah right, like that's gonna happen.............................dude! Talk to the sword.

Since this seems to be a general interest thread, I figured I might as well plop this in - https://docs.google.com/document/d/12btXG7NKUxk21qJUyvmC44L_eqKBLA3PHjBicrHgMp8/edit?usp=sharing

I've seen a number of people asking about specific measurements for various HI products lately, so I took some time to put together a list of every HI blade I could find, along with their defining characteristics. Obviously it's very much incomplete - if you have anything to add, I believe you have to request access, which I'll be quick to grant.

Impressive list, Finn. Thanks for putting it together. I'll see what I can find to help you fill in a couple.

Wow Finn That is a serious endevour. I don't think it should be buried in the back of a rambling thread. It deserves it's own new thread so everyone gets a chance to take a look at it and offer additions should they have some. Wonderful job so far. Thanks.

I also appreciate the effort, Finn!
But I am hesitant to have a complete list with specifics posted for all to see easily.
In case no ones noticed, there are nearly 10 of HI's original products from here on the forum being sold online by our major competitor in Nepal.
Apparently some users/guests here submitted our designs to them for special order.
I don't want to just serve our products with specs up to them on a silver platter.

thats pretty low down, but still is not hand made-- hopefully HI has enough non dbag customers/ guests to keep it going !

I agree Gehazi that is just about as low down as you can get. But why would anyone that has any experience with a real HI want one of "those" crummy replicas? <sigh> some people don't understand the value of real tools but I thought those types mostly went for cold steel ect.

Nice Pix and post, thank you for sharing

Phillll and shavru, thank you kindly for your donation for our Kamis.
