Help: $400+ folders vs. not-so-expensive ones

....If all you care about is plain function you certainly don’t need to spend a fortune. But if you appreciate the intangibles like quality, smoothness, finer materials and a higher level of attention to detail, then you won’t mind spending more to get it. It matters to you, or it doesn’t. It’s up to you.
I feel it's not an absolute choice as you can get both in the middle price-range of knives.

If you think a knife design defines its function, then you might have to look at something expensive.

I had wanted an elegant full Ti frame lock front flipper knife with a Wharncliffe type blade. There was none in the production range. The only thing close enough to my liking was a custom knife. So I jumped on it. Luckily, it was not a lot more expensive than a CRK knife. I am quite happy that I made that decision now.

I don't agree that it's not worth 300-400... But some folks think the added fit and finish and perfect action isn't worth it.

It costs additional to add unique stuff. Take it or leave it. It's not for everyone.

I love my slysz. I edc it occasionally. I've not used it for any hard tasks, but I wouldnt mind doing so. Just haven't had the opportunity.

I also edc cf knife art edition large sebenza 21. Love that knife alot! Perfect in many ways.

I have to put my piece in as well. The Slysz has essentially curbed my knife buying for nearing 7 months now, it does exactly what I need an EDC knife to do, while being extremely pleasant to hold. Does it do EDC tasks better necessarily than a cheaper option? Not really, however it is much more gratifying to use than my old PM2, or other knives. That is the big difference really. The feeling you get from the knife you busted your ass to afford, it doesn't have to be 300 or 700. But that knife you worked hard to get which is at the absolute top of your spending bracket that you spent hours trying to find? That is what will be the most gratifying (if it meets what your expectations were).

I can always look back at my older knives and view them similarly. Tying memories to a blade gives it far more value than monetary worth, even if they may be functionally very similar. I find that people tend to look at value strictly as monetary far too often. However I also am guilty of never buying knives with the intent on selling them. I buy to keep, to use and to enjoy.
