Yea, learn from her, she can teach you how to have the best time in the world with just an empty cardboard box :-) Now that's smart!

Boss,

I've got similar "difficulties" with my boys (10 and 7 y/0).

I plan to "fall back" on old age and treachery.... I've also started taking my exercise a bit more seriously as the younger one is darn near as big as his brother!

Oh, and you mentioned smart? Both of 'em tested into the "challenge" program (Gifted and talented Education to us old guys -- remember GATE?--) for the beginning of 2nd grade! In their district, only about 5% of the student body gets in... (yeah, had to brag a bit too!).

I feel your pain Boss. Hunker down and be proud!

Do what I did...

Just tell her you are actually a superhero, but as part of your hidden identity you must act foolish as to not tip off the bad guys in your search for Truth, Justice and the American way...

Worked for me... at least for a couple years... :)

Told mine that my brain was completely full of info so when I learned something new then something old had to go. It just so happened that what they asked had already been discarded. At least it gave them something to ponder for awhile.

3 & 1/2 is a magic age for sure. Hey, if she has the smarts already...maybe she will carry on the family business!

 :)

Jerry--- You nailed it... drink more. :)
Good thing Jennifer passed on those smarts. :D

Give up gracefully and allow your daughter to school you. In the end you'll both learn a something.

Also there's always the old fall back to physical labor and the ability to make large bottles of scotch and steaks disappear. Not forgetting designing knives to. I doubt she'll challenge you on those fronts anytime soon.

My oldest daughter could be a clone of yours. She is 23 now - good luck, you're going to need it. I remember her kindergarten teacher telling us that if we could just keep her pointed in the right direction, there would be no stopping her. Pointed in the right direction or not, there was no stopping her. She graduated from college last year, has a great job in brand marketing for one of the bigger health care organizations in the state and is officially on her own. She still drives us crazy - out of the house, but we are still parents. Get used to it!!!!!

Just thought I would add that you and mama need to get together, get your game plan written up, stick with it and present a unified front. If you look up the definition for the headstrong child, you will find my daughters picture there. These kids will push the boundaries every chance they get, and it is really hard as a parent to stay on task. Hopefully, your daughter got her dads smarts and isnt quite as headstrong as what we had at our house. That being said, I look back at what we went through with our daughter and would give anything to go back to when we brought her home from the hospital 23 years ago and do it again. Cherish these moments, they go by very quickly - next thing you know, she'll be going off to college or a job and then gently leaving to live her own life.

It's part of evolution. I understand concepts that my dad does not, and that is okay. And, one of my sons understands concepts that I cannot fathom, and that is also okay. In fact, he studies theoretical physics and quantum mechanics, and understands them.

We put a huge cardboard box in the living room for my 5 year old to play in. He was bored in a few minutes. I used to play in those for days! Of course, I did not have a play station and an Xbox in my room to play on.
