HELP!!!. . . Advice Needed!!!!. . . . What Do You Do. . . . ? ? ? ? ? ??

Advice ... as dangerous to give as it is to receive.:o

Frankly, all you can do is love her. Everything else will then work out. Eventually.:D

It seems like "kizmet" or whatever the correct expression is with Jerry posting this .... I have two daughters which I had early in life so they are grown up now .... I was away a lot of the time because of "service life"..... and in many ways "missed out" on their younger years which I deeply regret .... but a friend of mine who is the same age has been staying with me the past few days .... he has a son aged 10 .... a quiet boy which personally I like in children .... but he absorbs a great deal .... my mate is from down London way so up here in the hills is a bit out of the norm for them .... trying to keep him and his son entertained led to basically showing them both some fire lighting techniques and some bushcraft .... once the firelighting techniques were done then on to cooking on an open fire .... then took the boy for some long walks in the hills .... his dad has an injury which prevents him from doing some long distance but is keen to get the boy filled with confidence as he is a little shy .... the lad is only 10 yrs old and I took him over Kinder Scout the largest mountain in my local area .... we did 10 miles as the crow flys on the map in 3 hrs !

That is moving at 3.3 mph over some very rough terrain and steep climbing to begin with .... the boy was good company and could keep the pace and did'nt fuss at all .... stamina and fitness wise he leaves a lot of the guys I train in the shade .... that pace is as fast as I can go and I have been doing the hills for 30 yrs .... it is basically "selection" standard for our S/F albeit the requirement is stay at that pace for a much greater distance ...

Kids can amaze you .... and the pride you take in teaching them and the confidence you see grow in them .... it is all a very special thing ....

Tomorrow I am going to miss a comp I was booked in for and take this lad shooting long range on some of my rifles over the Moors ....

So far he has amazed me with the way he takes things in like a sponge and SO QUICKLY masters them .... the lad can do fuzz sticks and prep a fire as good as me .... and has picked this up in a few days .... we are just back in from cutting down a tree and sectioning it and then having a nice fire and cooking session .... and he did all the fire preperation ....

Next time I am on a course some recruits will hear a different "put down" if they start flagging .... this lad has me scratching my head at just how he does it .... :D

Kids are a lot smarter and fitter than you ever think possible .... and despite the "age of the computer game" .... they can really get into some "hands on fun" ....

His Dad's hope and mine too is that the lad will be able to go back to school after the summer with a new found sense of confidence .... and so he should .... he is certainly suprising the hell out of me !

I'm not really cut out to be a dad... If I can outsmart my cats, then I'm having a good day! :foot::o :D:D

Good luck, Bossman!! ;):thumbup::thumbup:

Tell her you will immortalize her for ever by naming a knife after her.

Give her a piece of drawing paper and let her design it..... 3.5 to 5 inches.

You should be chugging at this point....

If she is a smart as you say she is...which I have no doubt...you will have enough time to pound maybe two before she is done.

Then tell her to color it....

That will get ya two more....then well......

Ah yes. The first is always high-scoring on language and reading. I remember the day we were spelling things in front of Sam and she knew EVERYTHING we were saying. LOL

Yup, OP is right... You probably have 7-8 good years left... Then you with think that the devil has moved into your house... But eventually that passes and the good kid comes back (at least that is what everyone is telling me about my 14 year old step daughter) ...

All you can do is enjoy the good times. :D

Look on the bright side - You have two years to figure out an excuse to use when she asks for help with her homework :D

This thread is absolutely hilarious.. I feel for ya, lots of good advice posted here and I can't stop laughing at most of them..

Sounds like your girl is a firecracker, sit back and enjoy. I simply absorb all my kids have to say.........

"out of the mouth of babes"

Priceless!!!

 You're doomed.

I'm confident you can bluff it until she gets into school. When that time comes make her study in a foreign language so you don't have to help her with homework.;)

Set the example for what you want them to become.. not by what you tell them, but by your actions. They watch us like a hawk and they imitate what we do, not what we tell them to do. Give them 3 compliments for every reprimand, spending time with them when they are young is never time wasted... when they are in their twenties and have a family of their own, you will wish they were still 6-7 when they were innocent and looked to you for all that was life. and most of all introduce them to Him.
I have not met you Jerry, but I look forward to the day I do. Love them like there is no tomorrow, because many times today is all we have.

granted this is from a childless guy who will prob have his first one at 40;)

is to................JUST BE PROUD!!!:D:thumbup:

Jerry, I don't have kids, but Murray is a hell of a lot smarter than I am.

He gets food for free every day, he gets somewhere nice and safe to live for free and he goes to the beach every day and gets lovin' from complete strangers.

I don't know how he does it, but I've gotta figure it out. And he's only six!

:D:D:D

As a father of two girls who in turn have given birth to two girls each, I am a grandfather of 4 beautiful girls ranging from 2 to 9 years old. I feel you Jerry. All I can say is that it improves when you become a grandfather because you can give them back!

BTW, I understand that many 'good' schools are teaching Chinese as a second language as many believe that English and Chinese will be the main languages of the future and as daddy's girl I'm sure she will be coming to you for help - how is your Chinese?

Cheers
Ben

Jerry, you already have the knives covered. I'm sure you've invested in high-powered firearms for when Katie is of dating age. :)

My daughter is almost 8 and I'm already stockpiling. :)
