Help! Benchmade Osborne 940-1 CF or Spyderco Sage 1

I've had them both and Id suggest the 940-1. I'm actually a huge Spyderco fan and far from a Benchmade fan. The 940-1 is actually the only benchmade Id buy again and that says something having had almost all of them. Having said that you can't go wrong with the sage 1 either, it was my first Spyderco and I edc'd it for months. It wasn't until I got a few other knives that I realized the sage series wasn't for me having such a wide footprint and edge eating choil.

We all know you'll have both eventually so just pick one first!
pretty much sums up my experience with Benchmade knives. i've owned most of them. the 940 is one of their best designs and you can't go wrong with the Axis Lock.
on the other hand i edc a Caly3 carbon fiber ZDP

Look around eBay for the 940-1, can get for significantly less than the 260 listed price (nearer to ~200). And for this price, might be a better deal than the Sage 1. Better steel with more fun factor with the Axis-lock. A small issue I would like to point out is that the CF scales on a lot of Spydercos are CF laminate on G-10 instead of full CG like on 940-1, which might not do much to weight reduction... or boosting cool-factor... just my 2cents...

Not to diminish your advice as I'm sure there are a ton of perfect examples, but I've seen a lot of questionable stuff come from Ebay--how can one be certain the 940-1 they receive isn't a knockoff even if it comes from a decently reputable source? Clones these days are really, really accurate. I try even to avoid Amazon when buying a knife in favor of supporting small businesses (even if it's a little more expensive, at least they back their product), but that's impossible when one gets a handsome Amazon gift card for a special occasion

I'd be comparing the CF Sage 3 vs Benchmade 940-1. In which case I'd vote Sage 3. Same pros you've mentioned, nothing like the PM2, and carries really nice in the pocket (flatness). ALSO, Spyderco honors the late Blackie Collins by donating a small sum to the Alzheimer's foundation. Even if you just buy from a BF member, it still has some history to go along with it. Pretty cool stuff if you ask me.
