help choicing large survival nuke proof knife

Sorry man, but all that written warranty stuff is for legal reasons. I have been using the Buck warranty for 20yrs. They will replace or repair "no questions asked" for life. Any owner, any reason. I sent them a 119 I found in the gutter broken in half with no handle. Told them I found it and that it had probably been run over by a hundred cars. 2 weeks later, NEW KNIFE! BUCK has the best warranty in the business and has forever, do some actual research and you will see that they are forced to have what appears to be a limited warranty in writing due to state regulation but that is not the case. They have replaced at least 12 broken knives for me and have repaired more broken tips than I can count, along with free sharpening. Look up Buck warranty service anywhere and you will find that no one has issues with the warranty. Same warranty they have had since the 60's but new laws require a written. Limited to be provided.

Sorry man, but not according to Buck. Or are you telling me there has never been a denied warranty claim? Prove that. But you can't.

To have a no questions asked warranty the words "no questions asked" need to be in the verbiage of the warranty. Pretty simple really...

For the knife to be "nuke proof" all you have to do is make it out of whatever they built the fridge in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull out of.

Started a new thread on the Buck forum concerning the warranty. Unless they have cut corners recently and decided not to have the Forever warranty anymore I will figure out what's going on. Until they say otherwise I still consider them to have the best warranty in the knife industry. Its the very foundation Buck was built on and the one thing that made them the #1 knife company for millions of people.

I still recommend the Junglas though lol

I think the Rajah II is a fantastic out of the box recommendation. Personally I would keep saving for a Survive! GSO-7/7 or GSO-12 in CPM 3V or perhaps something in INFI from Busse. Survive as pre-orders open at this moment.

I guess it solely depends on what you intend to be the knifes main function. If its a one knife do all, I would go with the Esee Junglas, Tops Tahoma field knife, BK9, Rodent 9. You will get a lifetime warranty on all these knives, however, I have only heard of the BK9 failing due to extreme use. The Tahoma field knife does have a notch in it, but like all Tops knives, they know how to heat treat and it will not break where the notch is. The Buck Hoodlum does because they laser cut their knives or at least they use to. The Esee Junglas also seems to be very well made. I have a Tops Condor Alert, and after some practice I have managed to do most if not all my fine detailing work that I can do with my short 1/8" thick knife. I have put my knife through total h*ll and I use it a lot. I baton with it, chop, feather stick and process games with it. All I do is strop my knife after each use about 10-15 times on each side using some quality leather to maintain my shaving sharp edge. I have even seen my knife flex going through some knotty maple and when I finally split it all the way through, the blade was straight as an arrow. Esee does do a good heat treat, but not a differential heat treat. Esee' heat treat is the same through out the blade where Tops is not. On a Tops, the spine is softer and as it works closer to the edge, the harder it gets. This allows the knife to flex, take abuse without snapping, but the edge is hard enough to maintain its sharpness for extended periods of use. As far as having the better steel, the Rodent 9 has Sr101 I believe which is very tuff, much more than 1095. As for price, you just have to search the web and you can find some good deal. On Amazon, I found the Tops Condor Alert for $199 w/ free shipping. Then I looked at the same knife on Knife center and found it for $150.00 w/ free shipping. Just find something you like and if you have a good feeling about it, give it a go. If you change your mind, I'm sure it won't be hard to sell or trade here on the forum and try a different blade. Hope my rambling helped! Lol....

Yepper, 3V and Infi are what I would choose over ANY other option on a larger knife, especially for use as a survival knife! Lots of great option in used Busse's!
