Help design our new fillet knife!

Those are all beautiful. I think I like the looks of the second from top the best.

thanks! Anything in particular that draws you to that one? We'll be mixing and matching features we like from the different designs to converge on a single design for the next prototype

Most of the fish I fillet are less than a pound. That knifes blade is not as tall as the others . It looks like it would do a good job on smaller fillets .

Those are beautiful. I like the third and fourth. I'm always drawn to upswept tips and those look like they would work really well on the steelhead, salmon and tuna I will be fishing for.

Those are some nice looking knives! I'm sure I'd be in for 1 or more....lol....but great work!

There looking really good so far,I like the second from the top the best so far,the flared butt is a really nice anti-slip feature when your at the fish cleaning station and you want to spray your knife and hand down with the power sprayer in between every 4 or 5 fish or so.I like the the longer 9" bladed fillet knives also.Almost forgot mabe some jimping on the thumb rest may be nice as well.

sorry for the late reply here. Thanks for the comments everyone!

@gunfixr + lazy otter: Each knife is a little different in flex, they all flex nicely though. I will post a some photos tomorrow of the flex.

@Scott H. Thanks for the jimping idea we'll give it a shot on one of the next proto's

I do like the fact that the knive have a personality. They put off a warm fuzzy feeling for me which is nice in a fillet knife to me. So that's a big selling point for me too.

Here are photos of the knives being flexed. I'll refer to the knives in the order they appear in the last post (top is #1, bottom is #4) ignore the sharpie numbers on the blades.

#1 is most flexible then #3, then #2 and least flexible is #4. They all work really nicely though, I filleted a couple salmon yesterday and all of them were better than any other fillet knife I've used.

Great post. Thank you. I am liking #3 more and more all the time.

Very nice! I'm sold you seem to really be going that extra mile and taking feedback and in a timely mannor and for this I applaude you and any staff you have! To me it shows your trying to put a quality product out. I've decided I'm getting atleast 1or more. Y'all sold me can't wait to get 1 and get some fish to go to town on! Nice job!

Thanks! We really appreciate that! Its just my dad and me for now, I'll pass on your comment.

We hope to have the knife out in the next few weeks. I will keep this thread updated with progress!

Well y'all have done a fine job and I've looked high and low for a fillet knife of just this type...now I'm poor(worker comp) but I will get mine somehow! This I promise y'all and damn right I'm gonna show it off too!

Here are a couple CAD screen shots of the latest prototype ("fillet knife prototype 1b"). The handle shape is almost identical to that of #2 above and the blade is a close copy of #3. Will be working on scale design this weekend and hopefully we'll be milling one of these early next week!

Thanks for the input Brad. What fillet knife are you currently using?

-mike

believe it or not I use the cutco fillet knife, gimmike sheath but the thing rips fish well and the adjustable 6 to 9 in out of the handle is a bonus. I do have to steel them more than the steel your using most likely.

I also use a 9.5 in Grohmann, had to epoxy a little gaping where the blade meets handle to keep the goo out but it is a very good thin flexible knife. came with a
pretty good sheath too. It has not seen too much use with having 2 of the cutco's.
Used to sell them when young and won them both on sales bonus's.

your #3 is the winner for me
