Howdy folks

I'm not in these parts often, and I don't have a good knowledge base of all the busse-kin blades. So I'm hoping you guys can help.

I recently beat the hell out of some blades, a Sykco 511 among them. It took the abuse very well. I reprofiled the edge and there was only a very small nick after the abuse.

I love my bk9. It, likewise, held up excellently. I'm now considering a busse-kin chopper. I don't really even like my 511, as odd as it sounds. The handle is too damn small and the weight is too forward for a belt knife. But it's so resilient, and this quality has overwhelmed the perceived drawbacks.

So! Is there a moderately priced busse-kin with possibly a bigger handle, that can out chop my bk9? I'm looking, at least for now, at the 1111. Seems like a good price /performance ratio for the neophyte.

Thanks for any help.

Yep, 1111.

As for the 511, you could try reducing the birds beak at the end of the handle. Its easy and it makes a world of difference.

Never had a double tap before. Darn tablets. Any chance a mod could merge the threads and retain this post, with the vids?

Look at the Rodent 9. The handle on it lends itself to larger hands. Its a very capable chopper and not much more ($20) then the Scrap Yard 1111.

Have a 511 myself and i agree with you on your point of wiews. Have a 1311 too and thats something totally different from the 511.

1311 is a BIG chopper (handle is larger than the 511, too) dosnt feel heavy, but you dont relly need to put force into it to do some seriously chopping. Dont have a 1111 to compare with, but my Basic-11 is quite similar to the 1111,- Basic-11 is faster in the hand, but you need to put more power into it, to do the same work as with the 1311.

If i could only have one of them (i mean if the 1111 is like the Basic 11), i would go for the 1311- its an impressive chopper (as a Basic lover, i preferre my Basic-11 to the 1311, but thats another story).

Good luck finding your perfect chopper :D

Haven't gotten out and done any choppin' with it yet, but here's an 1111 next to a 1311 for size comparison.

The 1111 feels a lot like the ASHBM in hand and is around same size.

Good luck with your search!!!!

To the mods, thanks for the thread merge.

And for the pictures, thank you as well. I like the looks of the ashbm (learning lingo slowly). How would it compare to the 1111 in terms of chopping performance? Aside from style points (which it has) and collectibility, is it worth the cost?

(edited to add, so my reading comprehension skills arent overly in question, I did see that you mentioned not having chopping time yet! Just wondering if there's a general consensus on this.)

Comparison shot, from top; Magnum EU 17, Bush Wacker Mistress, Basic 9 and Basic 10.

You can still find the BWM and the Basic 10 on the exchange, EU`s and Basic 9`are more rare.
The Bush Wacker is quite light for its size compared to choppers like the NMFBM. Basic 10 is light and fast in the hand.

I should clarify. The Basic 10 and SYKCO 1111 have the same handle. The 511 has the small handle.

Ah, well that's a horse if a different color. I thought it was the same handle as the 511. Should be an easy win then. The hunt begins...

Stupid question : are these readily available off the website, or are they sprint runs that require pursuing a secondary market? I assumed the latter but they appear available for purchase on the site.

1111, 911, Rodent 9, and the ASHBM are all of the large choppers that are currently available. Everything else must be found on the secondary market.

More comparison pics. for you; SYKCO 1311, Basic-11 and BWM. 1311 has the new generation basic style handles, Basic-11 has the old style, no difference in size, B-11 has a thumb rest and lines on handle. 1311 is smooth without any of the above.BWM in green/black G-10.

1311 and B-11 has more foreward weight on blade than the BWM, but if someone dont want Res.-C handles, the BWM is a good alternative if you want a Busse.

This isn't my picture but it might help you see the size difference in the handles. The large chopper pictured is the 1311, not 1111:

In terms of the 511 having a small handle, it gets all the bad attention when the 311, basic 5, basic 3, dumpster mutt, yard keeper, INfI coot etc. all have the same handle which people don't seem to complain about.

Comment on the 511 handle:

The handle dont go well with the size (balance of the blade). I have smaller Basic handled knives like the B-3/Euro B-4/INFI-Coot/Dumpster Mutt/ and 511- and yes, i agree with you in no complains on those guys, but the 511; as stated, has a blade/handle issue.

Next knife in the SYKCO line, the 711, has the larger handle and that knife is one of my absorlutly favorite knives

That's all great info, thanks guys. Those larger handles look perfect. Unfortunately now I want both a 911 and definitely a 711.

I wish I hadn't seen one, now I'll be trolling for a 711 for weeks. :)

The 711 is a great knife, and it can be ordered now. I've never regretted picking up the ones I have.
