HELP...I've been robbed

...When they snatched mine spiral...they didn't hit just me. They hit virtually all the mailboxes in a 2 block area in broad daylight and no one saw a thing. Granted, most of the people were off to work (including me ) but you would think someone would see something. Were any other mailboxes hit in your area???...

I talked to a neighbor I trust, apparently, he has been having a little trouble. I just dunno. I'll get the Postal Inspector on it. Maybe they can bring some special super steel sniffing dogs that will trail them right into the den of the knife thieving .......... well you get the idea.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck Spiral. I hate thieves. Maybe the thief will at least trip and fall on it.

Man, I'm sorry. I am so sick of thieves! I remember back in college once I was expecting a package. Carrier delivered it to the wrong floor of my apartment building. I called the PO and asked where it was delivered, so they told me. I walked upstairs and pounded on the door. The little weasel had the box on his table starting to open it. He looked all sheepish and handed it over.

Hope somehow you get your blades back.

Hey!

I suggest you ask the carrier to 'fake' a delivery to your house, and then, just hide quietly beside the window, and catch the scum faced crook when he comes to get the package.

Do that. I won't go into details, but they've caught people in NYC I wouldn't have believed they could. Some of their undercover work is almost funny, when the thieves realize they've GOTCHA. :)

By the way, guys, not to say all letter carriers are saints, but stealing anything off your own route is just about the easiest theft for the Inspectors to catch onto.

That's not a bad idea, if you can get the USPS to go along with it. Make sure you get pics of the scum reaching inside your mailbox, taking the package out and walking away with it.

You're a retired carrier aren't you Esav?

Damn guys, this sucks big time.
Most of the time it's someone you know.
Did anyone else have knowledge of the packages??

...In my case it was probably random by possibly a number of kids as we live near a school bus stop...It must have happened pretty quickly if no one saw anything. In spiral's case it sounds like he/she/they may have zero'd in on his mail box knowing something neat might be in it...

Sorry to hear that SA.
Thieves are ignorant morons and deserve a little surgery in the lower reigon.
Crime would go way down.

Spiral,

They say misery loves company. On Monday I pulled the trigger on a Nakamura as an anniversary present for my wife. New Graham sent it out on Tuesday and I tracked it thru UPS. It was to be delivered on Thursday. Well I checked progress at 5:00 on Thursday and it said delivered at 4:32. Problem was I was home at 4:45 and there was no package. Even worse at 4:30 there were three people in my house. So I'm being asked to believe that no one answered the door and in the 15 minute window between when it was left and when I got home the Russian Spetznatz team watching my house swept down and snagged the package. Try an find another Nakamura ... Oh and just for fun the package also had a Spyderco S90V CF Millie in it.

Esav, I am sure knows best on the UPS procedure, but the Postal Inspectors are the best funded Federal LAw Enforcement unit there is. There are not alot of them, but they are very effective and get every new toy that comes out to catch the bad guys. It is very rare that a Postal worker is the real crook asa he will be caught too quickly. The guys in the distrution centers are the real thieves if any are. You do have to be a little cautious about mailing AOs in the USPS system as they borderline on banned items for mailing....

get a camera, dont put it in the mail box tho they might take it put it up by the house and aim it at the box, we had to do that, simply because the stupid streetrats took to throwing theyre garbage in our mailbox on the way home from school

Thanks for all the kind words fellas. Esav, I finally got the senders addresses and I am going to file the paperwork and let the postal inspectors take care of it.

One thing that I hope this thread has done is make you guys think twice about your current mail delivery situation. It was an expensive lesson for me. Here is what I have learned:

Always have Signature Confrimation added to your packages
Always have insurance on your packages
Send it to your work or a PO box if you can
Just b/c nothing has happened to this point doesn't mean that it won't

Be safe and smart with your packages fellas.

The Postal Inspector? What a joke. I bought a watch back in December of '07, I paid for it (via a Postal Money Order), but I have STILL not received the watch. I contacted EVERYONE I could think of (except for The Pope and Tom Cruise), and I filled out ALL of the "forms", but there was NOTHING that could be done to help find my "missing" watch, so I'm out $110.45, and some jackass, somewhere, is wearing MY watch..

I hope that you find your 2 knives, but it don't look good.:grumpy:.

I won a contest at my job and got to choose my prize off a web site setup with my choices. Looking at what I was offered, I decided on a Coach Purse for my wife, as she will never get one any other way! :D So I order the purse as a surprise for her, and then later in a moment of weakness let her know it's coming. I had put in the delivery notes to NOT leave it on my porch as I did not want it disappearing and it was worth quite a bit.

Time goes by and I'm net sure when I will get it so I'm not worried. I finally manage to find that it was shipped and delivered according to the confirmation number, and over a month before! It was gone, and I did not "purchase" it and there was no way to contact Coach as I was not the "purchaser" according to the records they had, and it just went from there. Long story, with no purse for my wife at the end. This was UPS by the way.

I would not have cared near as much except for I had made the mistake of telling my wife....... Not good. And, that was pretty much her only shot at ever having a Coach purse! Ahh well, now my deliveries go to work instead.

The Postal Service is no longer about service. They're all about cutting costs, and the Inspection Service is a big part of that cost. As a result, they are under the gun like every other USPS employee from mail handlers to managers. They are reducing the ranks of the USPS uniformed police officers and inspectors by offering early retirement bonuses and cutting their budgets. The police force is being replaced with low wage rent-a-cops. The Postal Inspectors' duties are being taken over by the USPS Office Of Inspector General. They answer only to the Postal Service Board Of Governors not the Postmaster General. I think your best bet would be to file a complaint directly with the O.I.G. or the B.O.G. And you are correct Esav, it isn't worth it for a carrier to jeopardize a $52,000 a year job (much more with overtime) as well as his retirement benefits over a couple of knives. It is extremely rare to find a carrier stealing from the mail. More likely, though not at all common, is to find a carrier throwing away junk mail. And Spiral one more thing, USPS insurance isn't really all it's cracked up to be. You might want to read the fine print. There are strict requirements for filing an insurance claim with the USPS. Personally though, I've had more problems with UPS than the USPS. UPS has a bias toward business customers over residential, ("businesses close but residents don't"), and they don't deliver on Saturday either. Just MHO and of course YMMV.

I'd take the matter into my own hands, chances are the person who took your parcels, is someone in your local area..

Put a video camera on the mailbox, and leave a big parcel near it.

The minute someone goes to take it..

a) jump out of the bushes, spray them down with gas, light, kick in balls.
b) Play some police sirens from your kettle blaster, arrive in a uniform, and escort the person to a remote location, where you can give a beating at your own leisure.
c) Beat the crook down with a baton until he's incapacitated, Drive him into the woods, tie him to a tree, spread jelly, peanut butter, lots of sweets all over him, and leave 1 pound of raw meet by his feet.. Let nature sort him out.

Of course, there are many crooks and getting rid of one wont necessarily bring your knives back, but eliminating as many as you can, will definitely give you peace of mind.
